Do we know when Oliver hurt his hand, what’s he done and how long to recovery? Was that his only ailement? Or his struggling to cover the ground?

He is nowhere near his best this year - hasn’t had a dominant game yet. I know he is carrying a bit of baggage. Maybe this is all we can expect from now on.

Round 1, 35 possessions, but l agree, he’s pretty banged up & shouldn’t of played

We knew we were going in underdone given the 3 games in 12 days (insane, this doesn't happen in any other sport in the world and think about his physically and emotionally taxing the modern game is), I think what we should have done is gone really hard from the start and tried to put some points on them, and then accept we'd fade away in the second half. Instead we went too defensive with ball movement from the top, and what broke this strategy down and made any strategy impossible really is our contest around the ball and in the air was just horrendous. So perhaps even with the above strategy we'd have been in a fair bit of trouble?

Brisbane only had two further days compared to us (they played the Thursday night in Round 3, we played the Saturday night). They also had one fewer day's break into this week compared to us, and they have been on the road back-to-back. Having said that, they had a bye before they commenced these three games.

Did the fixture really cruel us that much more than Brisbane?

The putting words in people's mouths thing is getting out of hand. Most of us are NOT slitting the wrists but simply saying the performance was not good enough which it wasn't. I don't see an issue with doing this. Yes it was nice to have a little fightback at the end, yes it helps percentage but please don't mask the poor performance with the not giving up routine.

The fact that we didn't show a whimper since from the first 5 mins of the first quarter and only did something when Brisbane's cue was in the rack has to tell you something.

We aren't negative Nellie's for saying these things and we will be at the next game. No need to gaslight people.

Well said.

100%.  It was as distasteful as Finlayson but nothing will be said. Brisbane are [censored]. Glad this group hasn’t won’t a flag. Hope they don’t. Hate them.

Kayo died at 1/2, time got to watch the second half on pretty much fast forward..

Worst game we have played in years.  Is Brisbane a boogie team for us at the G now?

They played so well, hitting targets, actually taking contested marks, anticipating where the ball was going.  Outnumbering at the drop of the ball.  Or we were so bad we made them look great...

Ruined my tipping, had Salem in my fantasy team, but we get 2 weeks off to reset.

Playing North atm isn't much of a game.

That’s BS and you know it. They have had one extra day rest, so our conditioning is not the reason we lost.

It was tactical, effort and skill. All 3 combined. The only thing we can realistically improve is effort.

Time to move Petty back. The forward experiment needs to end. T Mac to CHF.

McDonald has been awful for two years as a forward, having a renaissance in defence. Why on earth would you do that?

The umpires were so disgustingly bad it was like some sort of bad dream.

Glad someone said it!

Didn’t cost us the game but it is very deflating when it’s that poor to one side.

They had the bye. In no other elite sport in the world would you play 3 games in 12 with the near identical personnel.

You look at soccer, they play a second string team for EFL and FA Cup ties and ring the changes in midweek games.

Their sport is also less physically taxing not only in the kms run, but in the sheer physicality.

It made a huge difference. You could tell we were out on our feet by the second quarter.

Oh, and I maintain what I said about Brisbane supporters in the run in to this game. They are as smarmy as Zorko and whichever nuffy sledged Petty about crying again.

They are mostly Fitzroy supporters at the games down here. They chant Lions, not Brisbane. Reminding them their team died in 1996 shuts the mouthy ones up pretty quickly I find.

Because if Tom can mark the ball like that down forward he is still a great asset. Petty is a premiership CHB & at the moment looks like a fish out of water.

I know Oliver isn't at full fitness but at least give him some centre bounce attendance. Absolutely wasted at half-back.

Protecting that finger prob to get him to the bye me thinks

Yes it is taxing but again it is also the gameplan the Lions refused to let the game to be a purely a contest game they opened it up moved the ball at pace at all times stretched the midfield with ease away from the contest, they had players stand away from the the contested ball were we just flooded it, other top sides will try to do the same thing.

There was an incident in the game tonight mid way through the first quarter where it looked, from where I sit, that Zorko stuck his leg out at Petty. It was 80 metres off the ball.

Was this shown on the TV, or been discussed at all anywhere?

Quite simply, I don't think he the development in him to become a rounded player like you seem to want him to be. He does what he does exceptionally well and I'm happy with that.

There were a few typical Fritsch moments tonight that I was not happy with at all, but it was the midfield where we were soundly beaten. Taking aim at Fritsch after tonights game tells me you have had him in the gun for awhile just itching to pull the trigger.

I get it that this is a place that you can vent after a loss and I have loved you as a poster in previous years. So go ahead. I will disagree if I see fit. If there is anyone in the forward line that needs a spray it's Petty. Equal amount of disposals as Salem. Just horrendous.

Petty had a stinker but the ball was almost exclusively sat on his head and he tried to negate Harris Andrews more than win the ball.

Of course none of the forwards had it easy with the midfield pantsing, but my issue isn’t just with Fritsch but with the coaching that allows or asks him to constantly be out the back.

Someone has to break a line to get it there and good teams don’t allow line breaks. It also puts him in a terrible position to impact defensively. And doesn’t let him use his skills.

Honestly I think we got stuck playing Adelaide Oval football. That’s what I see Fritsch out the back as being. A narrow ground where you can get from the wing to over the top of the defenders.

MCG football requires a hit up at CHF. it’s been the missing piece of our game plan for years. Fritsch takes his turn to hit up at times and other times he will get it out the back. That’s unpredictable ball movement and fluent team play.

Jeremy Cameron was a bit of an out the back artist at GWS. He moved to Geelong at 27 and became a much more complete player. Same age Fritsch is now. I see no reason Fritsch can’t keep developing his game.

Perfect conditions, reasonable home crowd, two of the worst umpires that I can remember and our team looked slow and unable to match the Lions pace and short game for three quarters. Despite having a dominant Max Gawn, our mids ran out of gas and the Lions had six of the top seven players on the ground and that lack of balance enabled them to slice us up in a very cool and deliberate manner aided and abetted by a couple of adjudicators that do not understand the rules of the game. However I will also take the 4 wins and two losses a 13 day break and see how the boys respond against the Tigers on Anzac Eve, I love our Anzac Eve guernsey’s.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
