@goodwindees

with good mail again, I think back in Feb he told us Blues were heavily into Hayward and Florent.
I’d take Hayward.

A very good player and one I’m glad we’re linked to

But if I had to pick one player for us to chase this off season it’s Max Holmes

He’s an absolute jet and just the type of player who would compliment our existing team

Just a shame the Cats beat us to the punch when we wanted to draft him in 2020 😭

Hmm might be a good player, but is a mid sized forward isn’t he? Not sure it’s an area we are in dire need to fill. I suppose as a RFA it’s worth a shot.

Hayward, Florent, McCluggage, Cumming, Henry all worthy of consideration as free agents.

Do we look at Dev Robertson as midfield depth? Can't get a regular spot in the Lions side and with possible disunity among the group perhaps wants to get out? We liked him in his draft year.

Edit: and of course Max Holmes if there's any chance of landing him.

Dev is [censored] unfortunately

Fair call, probably why he's not playing regularly. Good thing we couldn't trade up for him is it would have cost us Rivers.

Hayward's handy because he can play that disruptor role on talls, he usually gives Lever a good test.

That would allow us to only play 2 talls alongside Fritsch and Hayward and drastically up our forward pressure.

As for mid sized forwards. Fritsch is the only one in the side right now and Hayward's a different type of player. And the others on the list;

McAdam - a bit of a role of the dice but he could play alongside Fritsch and Hayward
Sestan - still a longer term project
Tholstrup - just a kid, but I like him better as a midfielder or high half forward than a guy with a structural role

Hayward. 4 year deal for at least a $1.5mil package.

$1.5mill ÷ 4 = $370,000 per annum. Is that what you are suggesting?

I’d prefer Florent for roughly a $2.0m over a 5 year deal. Heading into his prime and is a Vic boy who may want to come home.

$2 mill ÷ 5 = $400,000 per annum. Is that right?

If so, you need to leave the early 2000s and port yourselves into 2024

It would take twice that, or more, to get him to move

They rarely leave Sin City.

You’d prefer to pay one of the best young players in the game a long term deal at less than the average salary?

[F M D], sons. You need to look at the CBA. In 2025, cap is nearing $19m (TPP + ASA).

The only thing I learnt here is that little nuffy Tom Morris has managed to land another job.

This. No wonder the AFL media is at an all time low.

Just be careful, PF. You said 'um'. We don't tolerate that around here.

Everyone got to make a living, coaches hate him, it makes for great media content

Current situation is that Swans have lowballed Hayward as they’re happy for him to be the one that goes. He’s currently on $600k a season and was on the “to be dropped list” about 5 times in 2023, but survived due to injuries.  Carlton have been interested for 12 months, the Dees interest is a lot more recent.
Swans are very keen to retain Florent, and by pushing Hayward out, they’ll most likely be able to.

Didn't Haywood play for the Filth in the '70's? Gun recruit from the country.

Got to be very careful when typing Filth and 'country' in the same sentence

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
