Lachie Neale's 250th.

He's 4/4 in milestone games.

We're good at ruining them though

Very excited to see the Kolt run around

good luck young man

Time to spoil that trend!

Unleash the KOLT!

Given the common sentiment that debutants shouldn't debut as sub and Woewodin badly needs minutes, I can see these changes:

In - Tholstrup, Laurie (sub)

Out - Pickett, Woewodin.

However I'd prefer either Woewodin or Tholstrup to start as sub and Laurie to remain at Casey. For such a big game this week, Laurie simply hasn't shown enough evidence that he's up to the task yet.

If there was no bye next week, I reckon BBB would have been rested.

and presumably that'll be the only change, kolt 4 koz?

woey 2.0 remains the sub

if woewodin comes in on the last again he can get a full game at casey on the weekend proper

Kolt 4 Koz. Only change IMO.

Perfect time for an injection of youth and attitude i reckon, 5 games in. Excited by this.

I thought Woey came back to play at a Casey scratch match last week? So he has had playing minutes I believe

Windsor, Tholstrup, Howes all playing in the same side by round 5! Could have gotten good odds on that in the preseason

Your Swans avatar is disquieting...

Come back Jimmy....

This will be a close game. Our form is not quite as strong as it looks and our last four wins have been big overs on Expected Score and we have lost the inside 50s in the last two weeks. We won't want to lose the territory battle again this week because Daniher and Hipwood have a height advantage and Cameron is a nightmare matchup.

I would start with Oliver on Neale at stoppages, especially in the centre. Oliver is struggling with his hand and Neale is key for the Lions' midfield. We really need a better performance from Clarrie in the clearances to beat Brisbane IMO.

Kossie is a big out, especially given the poor forward pressure we are are getting from Brown. Petty has been average in this regard too this season off the back of limited preseason and Fritsch doesn't ever like getting his hands too dirty. These weaknesses have been covered by our superior efficiency over the last month.

If we win the midfield battle, I doubt the Lions can play well enough to transition the ball through our defensive system enough times. That said, we have not been as strong defensively all over the ground this year and have relied on our back six to defend too much this year.

While sitting on a 4/1 start you certainly would have.

Assuming it’s Kolt for Kossie and that’s it I wonder what role he’ll be in.

Do they give him any of Pickett’s CBA’s? Or just leave them to Viney, Oliver, Petracca and Sparrow?

Does he play up the ground like Nibbler, Billings, Chandler have been or stay closer to goal like Fritsch and the talls?

I really hope he gets at least one stint in the guts.

I was planning on going to the game with my daughter tomorrow night, but she’s not well. If anyone else is going alone or looking for a Demon-supporting companion, please pm me.

THURSDAY, APRIL 11

MELBOURNE

Out: K.Pickett (suspension)

R4 sub: Taj Woewodin

BRISBANE

In: Nil
Out: Nil

R4 sub: James Tunstill

The Lions will go into the MCG clash with the same squad that defeated North Melbourne in Gather Round. Milestone man Lachie Neale, who will play his 250th game, and forward Zac Bailey will both play after they overcame sore spots in the wake of the win over the Roos.

Dees midfielder Clayton Oliver has been named despite managing a finger injury in recent weeks.

Always name our sub from the bench.

Full game for Kolt 👍🏼

Super nervous about Joe Daniher and an ill timed knee into Mays ribs flying for a mark..

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
