This is the latest free kick count after Round 4 below. Interesting to see if the umpires this week (a) reward Melbourne given it's a home game, with the noise of affirmation from our noisy supporters or (b) try to square up the ledger with Brisbane being rock bottom. We obviously took a hiding from last week's free kick differential count (-12).

FK Ladder - Round 4 2024

Injury report update from Selwyn Griffiths. Lachie Hunter played match sim v Carlton 2's last week with no issues.

Marty Hore looking to be back for Richmond game. I presume Smacca the same given the same expected return timing listed and previous advice from trackwatchers at training.

Clarry not listed. Presume he plays.

Yeah I don’t think they’re going to rest him, if anything minor can be done about the hand they might do an op after this week and have him back for the tigers or cats.

My daughter got his signature at the family day and I thought “geez his hand must be buggered” but then I compared it to a previous signature from 2021 and it’s just as unreadable then so the hand can’t be that bad.

We’re actually playing with several of our best quite banged up. For those thinking the bye is a godsend take a look the other side. There’s another tough stretch of games with the Blues firmly in my sights.

AMW must play, perfect time to give him a crack to see how he goes.

BBB out, looks tired. Perfect debut for Fullerton v his old mob.

Billings under the pump also.

HF - Chandler, van Rooyen, Neal-Bullen

F - Fritsch, Petty, Fullerton

No no and no

According to master statistician Champion Data’s own Daniel Hoine who some on here laud in all his greatness:

1. We have taken the highest number of shots on goal from the hardest areas

2. we are similar to how we started in 2023

3. We have marginally improved ball movement currently #11

4. We have regressed our contest game

5. We are the 5th easiest to score against ( I may have stiffed this one up as I can only remember 4 things at once with 100% accuracy) but the gist of the stat was our defence isn’t as good as it was.

So looking at it optimistically , we are 4-1 with upside.

pessimistically, we started like this last year too and from the GWS game onwards ended up becoming one of the more inaccurate sides

oh and our inside 50 counts was higher last year.

What about young Brown picket ?

Alright so no Koz, personally I'd like to see Woey a full game with either Tholstrup or Brown as the sub.

AMW a chance as well from reading recent Casey reports, but where would we play him?

Um not out of the question at all Uncle!

Kolt seems the most likely replacement for Kozz assuming Moniz is coming off some sort of setback.

Expect Hunter to return via Casey this week.  Smacca an outside chance as well.

For those of you reading this with a binman voice ... um ... um ... um.

OK. Kossie out for the match. A question, could he play in the Casey game given that he would have served his suspension?

Selection time.

B: Lever, May, McVee

HB: Rivers, Tmac, Howe

C: Langdon, Oliver, Windsor

HF: Sparrow, JVR, ANB

FF: Fritsch, Brown, Chandler

Fol: Gawn, Petracca, Viney

IC: Petty, Salem, Woewodin, Billings, Tholstrup/Laurie

Don't think it works that way, it's for the footy weekend which would include Casey's match this week. Even so I wouldn't play him at Casey, every chances some local footy thug lines him up just to make a name for himself.

You’re right that he won’t play at Casey, out for 1 week at all levels.

Bit harsh on the VFL though, it’s serious footy no one’s going to king hit him.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
