Was so pleased to see Trac shake off the fumbles he had at the start of the game (and to begin the season). I've been critical of him early on with his disposal and handballing to the feet of his team mates. Hopefully the perfect connection he had with the forwards several times in the second half on the weekend will boost that confidence.

2 former Dees in the top 10. Imagine if Jackson and Hogan still played for us... wah!

3 former demons. In top 20
it does say something

plus our 3

Trac not bad for someone who wasn’t that influential, hey Sam Mitchell.

Strange he made that statement then gave him 5 votes, maybe he watched the replay.

Lol.

Based on coaches votes, the three best players in the Australian Football league were all top-pick selections taken under special concession rules for the Television-Zone clubs.

Heeney; bid at pick 2, taken with pick 18 - a discrepancy so dramatic that the points system was introduced.

Green; points-based matched bid inside the top 10, using leftover junk draft picks after the Giants had already used pick 4.

Rowell; bonus No.1 pick given to Gold Coast because of how rubbish they chose to be. (Concessions given also included three other top-20 picks spread over the 2019-20 drafts)

AFL would be delighted I'm sure that 8 of the top 10 players from interstate clubs.

But, wait, the TV clubs have all had an extra round to earn votes in early.

It is almost as if the main point of round zero was to push selected clubs to the top of the apparent ladder. Hrrrmm....

I think Mitchell was referring to Oliver, not Petracca.

Surprised Gawn received votes. I thought he was quite poor with his disposal.

He was in the best players in both the Age and HS, as well as receiving 7 on the Footy Show.  He clearly beat the Hawthorn ruck and fed the dominant midfield most of the day.  Mitchell rates him very highly - part of his game plan against us is to avoid kicking it to Gawn - and I dare say Mitchell gave him his 2 votes.

Definitely some poor kicks like the one to Kozz that should have hit him up easily with no one around, instead went out of bounds (Kozz slapping the ball in anger :)

BUT apart from hitouts where it was pretty even he was influential across the ground

10 Contested possessions

7 inside 50's

390 Metres gained (fourth on ground)

6 tackles

Some of the stats that show he did really impact the game. Some of the stuff he does for a ruckman his size is just crazy.

Chandler with a couple of votes, nice!

Fancy Nibbler getting 4 votes from the coaches when he got next to zero mention on Demonland! Shocked. 😳

He did ok on the DLand votes this week Webber, he had a standout game.😁

Wow. Good observation. Jackson was certainly the one that got away & had we kept him we'd have not had Grundy

True that, DeeZone. Maybe the worm is turning. Either way, I’ll keep riding it until he’s acknowledged legend status.

Totally agree Tony I was screaming for him to hand pass in the first half !!!

Like a friend of mine in our Cricket Club last century I always said “l’d rather play with him than he play for the  opposition “

Thats Gawny !! Also to a tee.

Jack Viney (Melbourne)

“Two weeks in a row he’s missed out on votes when he probably could have easily got them.

“He was second highest rated player (against Hawthorn) behind Christian Petracca for zero coaches votes.

“His ball use at the moment is No.12 of any midfielder in the competition. We haven’t really associated that with Jack Viney before.”

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #33 Tom Fullarton

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #37 Kade Chandler

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
