Saw the name Noah Howes mentioned as someone who could be considered for the MSD. Had a look and he is Blake's brother. 195cm forward playing for South Adelaide in the SANFL.

He’s definitely not Blake’s brother

The AFL refers to us having one free spot because of Gus' retirement, but what of the Smith spot?

He is not allowed to play, but hasn't as yet had a decision in his case.

Surely he goes onto the LTI and a spot opens up, as he is very unlikely to play again this year.

Sadly I believe given the reasons for him not playing he cannot be out on a LTI list.
It is  however taking a hellova long time. What has happened to “justice delayed, justice denied”?

If he played for certain other clubs, he would have been cleared and playing again already. Most of them won this weekend.

Does he qualify for the good bloke defence?

I think we are now into about 8 months on this and no result.

Imagine if he was a Chinese swimmer and they found that his sample was contaminated.

AFL should allow Dees an added mid season spot and let JSm1th29 go to Roos.  🤣🤣🤣 Thats fair enough.  They get someone who can actually try to defend.  His penance is he gets to be overwhelmed each week and monstered by opposition key forwards Dees get to add a new young player who is so desperate to play that they do everything right to succeed.

I think Willie Rioli's case took 18 months to get to a resolution. Then his 2 year penalty was backdated to reflect his time in limbo.

Looks like we might be a player down for a while yet.

Oskar Smartt from Bendigo and Tobyn Murray from Geelong were good in the young guns game. Like to see more and would fit in as youngsters with more upside.  Murray especially had skills and balance to make an AFL midfielder.

Not sure if a 179cm midfielder in Murray is a need for us.

I wouldn't be surprised if we go for a developing talk ruckman/forward.

I like the prospect of Joe Pike from Geelong Falcons. 203cm ruckman who's a big lad that gets around the ground winning possessions and has got good follow up work. His ruck craft if also pretty impressive and certainly gives his mids first use.

Jasper Scaife is a 19 year old 198cm tall forward from West Perth who's kicked 8 goals in 3 senior games so far this year including a bag of 4 against Perth Demons.

Would be a good forward depth prospect especially with the uncertainty around Pettys future and Jefferson not coming on as we would have liked.

I agree.

Joel is being treated appallingly. Why hasn’t the AFL given the public a timeline for the resolution of this issue? Why hasn’t the MFC demanded a quicker resolution? And does the AFL Players Association care?

Dees have no young midfielders coming through. If you look at Casey, they got smashed in the midfield by Tigers last week in clearances and through the middle.  I think we lack any depth in the midfield especially after losing Brayshaw, Jordon and not getting young mids (aside from Windsor) in the last 3-4 drafts.  I’d like to see us look at young midfielder in this mid year draft and again with our first pick in November National draft.

If we wanted a ruckman, in my view Coburg ruckman Cooper Keogh would be the one to strongly consider if available.

Then one of the WA teams would take him before us.

Yes, whilst I get that, both Jordon and Brayshaw were bigger bodied mids around the 186cm and 188cm tall. We need depth in that area.

There's a difference between wanting mids and wanting the type that we are lacking which is the mid to tall midfielder that the like of Harmes, Brayshaw, Jordon and Dunstan have left in terms of depth.

Yes that was my point.  We have lost our depth in mids (departures of Brayshaw, Harmes, Jordon and Dunstan) have left us in need our recruits to fill this void. I would like to us fix this, starting in the mid year draft.

Yes you say this, yet you recommended a 179cm mid. What’s it to be?

I think you will find that there are a couple of entitees with far great powers than the 3 you have mentioned involved with he decision making in Joel's case and until these are completed nothing will be known.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
