The Demons head on the road for the next 2 weeks as they travel to Adelaide to play Port on Saturday and then have a 5 Day break before facing the Crows in the Gather Round. With injuries to May and Lever who comes in and who goes out?

Tomlinson is the obvious 1 if both may and lever are out then petty goes back, will be a huge week for our mids pressure needs to be on point so the backs are not under too much pressure, it’s a tough 2 weeks port then 5 day break to Adelaide if we can pinch 1 of those games I think we are doing well, pinch both and well it’s game on then

Petty went well down back and will have to play there the next 2 games despite training as a forward all summer.

We have a choice to make. We either push Petty back to defense, or we persevere with our ideal forward set up and hope for the best with a backline of Tomlinson, McDonald and Hore as the talls.
God speed.

Petty has to go back. TMac, Tomlinson, and Hore can do a job but you need an interceptor and we just lost two.

This should make us lean in to our current strategy to focus on quick movement from the backline, but we need to turn it over first.

I feel this is a decision that will save our season in the next 2 months but may doom our ability to keep Petty. Bit scripted really.

Why? He may prefer to play defense. Adelaide are wanting him to play down there.

Over the next couple of weeks it wouldnt surprise me if we do both.

Entirely dependent on how fit Brown and Petty are, and also Hore who may be coming off a low base fitness wise.

Personally I'd bring Tomlinson and Hore into the 22 and try to play them back for May and Lever, knowing that we can always swing Petty if it isn't working.

Yeah I thought I read Adelaide were saying he'd be a defender for them.

I haven't heard a preference either way from Petty.

And honestly, I reckon it's about money more than position. He's an RFA with 2 years left on his contract. Adelaide were throwing crazy money over and above his current contract which we don't need to offer to keep him. Of course the offer sounded good.

Because it’s not where we would play him. Which means it’s another half year of waiting for your (footy) life to start. I did say ‘May.’

I reckon his footy life has been pretty good to date and $1million a year would make it even better.

I will wait and see for the Casey results before thinking about changes. Tomlinson is not well favoured by the FD and I liked Petty, Hore, Tmac as our key pillars today. Fingers crossed Fullarton is ready and he can slot right in.

Joel Smith may have been handy at this time.

I’m more disappointed that McAdams is still not fit and Turner is injured.

As you say let's see what tomorrow brings but Fullarton is a long way from the proven player that Tomlinson is.

You also have to ask will TMac and BBB be able to deal with a five day turn around.

Could Lever make it back for the second SA game.

Lots of unknowns

Whatever the selections many on here will be angry and think the FD have no idea what try are doing

meanwhile we keep winning by 40+

I’d favour Petty down back than the Tomlinson, Tmac, Hore combo. But that is dependent on Fullarton or Ben Brown being able to play quality mins forward.

May won’t be out for long IF there is no internal damage (lungs, kidneys etc). Rib fractures alone don’t usually have them out for more than 1-2 weeks. Hopefully not too long for Lever either - as mentioned elsewhere, they would have a good idea by now if there was any possibility of ACL.

If Tomlinson is proven in any way, it’s proven that the coach only plays him in cases of emergency and usually for a set match up.

Tommo and T Mc together gives me shudders of playing getting turned around.

That said. Not sold on Fullarton or who else is available as a forward/mid.

Tomlinson on Dixon I assume and the following week on Walker. After the bye on Daniher

Tough ask perhaps

Dixon’s the only match up there I remotely like. Mobility of the others worries me.

I suspect it’s Petty back until May returns post bye with that line up

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
