Thought aside from a few curly moments, T-mac was exceptional in his original position down back.

Do you think that he was starting to get a bit stale up forward and that maybe a fresh change was needed? We see KPPs re-invent themselves often like this.

I have 2 comments/questions that are unfortunately a little negative and too wordy.

1) Im very impressed with some Sydney tactics; especially one where rather than take posession of a loose ball at head height in congestion, they tap it on/over towards a player. Our players, ANB in particular, prefers to take posession and attempt to either dispose or more likely accept the tackle and hope for a ball up. At best a stalemate, at worst a holding the ball. With the versatile Tracc and Clarry especially probably in the vacinity, could this be a tactic?

2) Lever cant dispose successfully almost at all, forward of the play when awarded a free or a mark. Most of his possesions are now sent backwards to a spare. Other teams are aware. When he does go forward it very much looks like he doesnt have a player as a target. His kicks are long and invariably high to a pack, if lucky. Most other quality teams are pulling back on this high kick to a pack. Even if he kicked it lower, which was something I understood we were trying to do, it would be better odds. Can anything be done? I like Jake but he is active with his feedback to players with it seems little self examination.

One segment on Binman naming names.

Off the long run up.

And the kicker - the last name…

Is there a chance Bbb will get back to his old form or are his injuries too inhibiting?

Not saying he should be dropped but who is Sparrows most likely replacement?

TMac and Hore were great inclusions. Everyone is worried about TMac's disposal but with the exception of one howler which he should have just hoofed it I thought his disposal was pinpoint. He knows when to spoil and he has a great pair of hands and knows when to clunk them. I reckon he is a better option than Tomlinson who I thought was stiff to be dropped. Hore was a very adequate replacement for Bowey and was solid. How did you guys think the backline functioned given that we made two changes to players who haven't played a lot of footy in this backline?

Welcome back to the MCG King Clarry!!! How good was that standing ovation that he received? I legit had tears welling in my eyes. Loved that he did the team thing and passed the ball off but I so wanted him to have a ping at goal. It would have brought the stands down. Love Clarry.

not many negatives this week with the exception of some sloppy disposal and some fumbling of the footy early on . couple of players had howlers today in sparrow , lever (although he took some good marks later on) and salem (although he made up for it later on with the goal .

I was critical of our small forwards last week but I thought they played better and contributed more this week. Do you think that it had anything to do with Kozzy returning?

I was recommended this podcast by a work colleague early last year, big shout out to mad dog Matty and it has become a staple of my podcast listening week. If I don't get through the show on my commute then I will finish it off on my nightly sojourns walking the dog through the mean streets of Ivanhoe. Thank you to Andy, Binman and George for all the effort you put into this podcast and know that the indepth analysis that you provide is much needed and appreciated especially after a loss.

I don't have a question but a comment and it highlights how good our recruiting and trading has been. Thought Billings had a solid game and he provides a great link up between our midfield and our forward line. Windsor and Howes both look like they belong at AFL level. I reckon in a few weeks we'll be talking about Howes being the Judd McVee of 2024.

Thank you for your time and as Binman is fond of saying at the end of each show. Go Red Leggers. Yes I do listen right to the end.

Our forward line seemed more functional with Ben Brown in it. Not only in the 50m arc but taking marks up the line too. We simply don't get that same thing from Schache. Having said that he seems to be being held together with tape and it might only be a matter of time before his knee blows. hopefully not soon. I understand he doesn't do much training in particular the contact stuff. Can he play the entire season because I would love to have him come finals? What should our plan for nursing Big Benny Brown through the season?

Reports from Casey on the weekend had Petty not getting much of the footy. Would you be rushing him back this week or let him find some form and fitness at Casey for another week?

Great to see two much maligned players (BBBB and TMac) play solid games. Proof that you should never write anyone off

Can any of the panel explain why Tomlinson was dropped?

Who was manning Jamara ugly Hagar during the match, it’s hard to see the match ups on tv.

Thanks for all the work on the pod guys!!!

Just wondering what the panel thought of Marty Hore’s return to senior footy? I thought he fitted in beautifully and complimented our backline. Hopefully he will have an injury free season and cement his spot.

Thanks for the excellent podcast.

How good is watching footy at the G in shorts on a warm sunny day? Any reason why the lights were switch on at 1:30pm on a bright sunny day? No wonder food and drink prices are so high these days. We're paying for their electricity bills.

The impression I had from being at the G and not yet having seen the replay is that the team is still adapting to a faster, more direct style. Numerous possession chains that looked promising ultimately broke down due to inability to execute at pace.

I would expect this to improve as the season progresses. In other words, exciting times ahead! What are the panels's thoughts on this?

As as aside, who was the last Demon who could regularly deliver the sort of pass Billings used on the northern wing to set up Trac for a shot at goal in the third term? My nomination is Trapper.

And let's hear what you think of Howes two games. He seems to have fitted in seamlessly to the defensive group who were collectively very strong.

The dogs backline was seriously undersized but one had to be impressed by Ben Brown. Seemed to move as well as he has since his time at Melbourne, getting himself high up on the wings to provide and outlet and then actually clunked a few with clean hands.

Our fixture is a bit tricky for the next three games. Hawks then two games in Adelaide in the space of 5 days. It feels like Ben's form is good opportunity to get VFL game time into Petty and maybe seek to have him back for that second game in SA? That might also be a good time to rest Ben if he get's through the next two games successfully

Also, it doesn't come through in the stats but I thought JVR was excellent when he went into the ruck. Ran at the ball, competed on the ground and didn't really get shown up by his opponent.

Is he our best 2nd ruck option, I am strating to think he is?

If you are referring to the first few minutes, there was little sloppy disposal by the time Footscray had 2.1 on the board because at the stage we had exactly one handball and zero kicks.  Couldn’t believe it could happen.  Almost looked like our famous bang, bang, bang. My MFCSS kicked in hard but fortunately we finally switched on and had a fantastic win.
How can a team with a gun ruck and gun midfield allow 2.1 before our first kick 😮😮😮.  Were they just enjoying our glorious sunshine?

If Bbb's form continues, would there be room enough to play Petty, Bbb and Jvr all at the same time?

Tx gents.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
