Seriously any AFL footballer is likely to murder all but a very few posters here. I played with a guy in juniors who "only" made AFL Reserves level but he was honestly 10x better than me.

They won't abandom the Salem midfield move after one game.  They've been trying to get him into the midfield for two years.

Let's hope not.  Maybe Billings to HB could be an option.  He's a very nice kick on both sides.

Quite right old . The gap between a good amateur and a top line pro is light years in almost any sport.

Woewodin played half-back for East Fremantle (as well as midfield and forward).

He's fast and well skilled.  I like speed from a running back.  In his third year I see no reason he couldn't slot in there, especially as we've now got 3 wingmen ahead of him.

Calling @kev martin, have you seen Woey or Billing train with the backs at any stage this preseason?

I haven’t.

I don't think he has, but considering it's the easiest gig in football and he's played there as a junior, I suspect he'd cope well.

Incorrect information. Neitz started his MFC career as a forward *in the forward line*.

Yep. Remember Grigic played 90 AFL games, that’s 90 more than most here. I remember in my 20’s lining up at half back on a 16 year old Con Goridzidis who only managed 30 games for St Kilda. I think he  had kicked about 4.6 before I was dragged off him at quarter time! He was just so much faster and stronger at 16 than the other 35 adults playing, it was extraordinary. Finished kicking about 8.10 I think.

Admitting I have never seen Jefferson live (or on TV) but Jack Watts becoming a handy defender during his last years with the Dees and maybe Jefferson has similar traits.

It does not bother me which end of the field Jefferson flourishes; as long as he does.

I think he theory with Jefferson is he will learn the game better from the back half.

Its a good ploy....it forces him competitively....simple task requiring responsive effort.

I believe Neitz was an outstanding FF at our U/19 level and progressed as a forward to the seniors. However we had a gap to fill at CHB and he was moved there for a season (or two).

I don't need to read it again Your mistake will still be wrong. Neitz was a forward 1st. NOT a CHB then became a forward.

Your statement  BECAME a forward is wrong. He was shifted to the backline from the forward line.

A fact that I will remind my Grandkids when recalling my excellent Footy and Cricket careers Uncle!

Don't see Jefferson as the crash or bash forward. Needs to work with Fritch and learn his craft as a smart forward. The point is Melbourne has failed to identify big body forwards for the last decade. They have had so many misses it's not funny. Brown proved useful for one year but long term, we have sold the farm in early draft picks.

Right back at ya baby if you'd trade Petty and JVR for JUH.

JVR will be a very good KPF when he isn’t the only big body in the forward line.  On Thursday he was double and triple teamed.  Write him off at your peril.
Yes, JUH would be great acquisition.   Few would disagree.  Can the deal get done?

Not sure we've sold the farm in early draft picks.

We've been pretty successful.

Weid is the only top 10 KPF of recent times that's been a bust.

Not sure why some people are eager to write off a young key forward that hasn't even started his second year. Club was impressed enough with his first year to extend his stay until 2026, if he's not playing regularly by then I'll start to be concerned.

No one’s eager to write anyone off. But when you’ve watched a lot of footy the first thing you look for is an appetite for the contest. They’ve all got great skills that can continue to be worked on. Appetite is the split second difference that defines the best players in this sport. I and others, including much better footy brains than me, don’t see it with Jefferson. Can he prove the doubters wrong, yes but it’s unlikely

I came on to read the thread in the hope of reading how AMW went, as I have a vested interest.

Only to find Demonland hasn't changed much, posters writing off young players, reminiscing for the past, posters sniping at each other etc etc

Any chance of an actual report

Nailed it. Neitz got his 1st senior game in 1993. At 18yrs old, in only his 6th Game, kicked 6gls 6 bhs against Richmond.

With a forward line consisting of Lyon, Schwarz,Bennett,Jakovich and Martin. (not all available at the same time, due to injury). In his 2nd year he was moved to CHB.  He proved it didn't matter where he played, he was a superstar.

Demonwiki has his full bio. Check Wiki as well. AFL tables has him kicking 17gls 15bhs in his 1st season. He was then later moved back to the forward line after killing it at CHB.  I hope this puts to bed that some think he started as a backman.
