Exactly. Its why I would like him to have an official League based role as Concussion Ambassador.

Promoting all the scientific and research  knowledge and adding a personal  example. 

Like the Daniher story of MND there is plenty of opportunity. The added impact that it would constantly remind Maynard, Collingwood and their supporters of how appalling The whole affair was.

Yes as i stated earlier somewhere, we take the initiative and appoint him as the club Concussion Ambassador.

Force the AFL to acknowledge and recognise the problem.

I know it would not be easy but should be discussed when Gus is ready.

Just because Angus had football taken away from him by concussion doesn't mean he wants to spend his time being a  'concussion ambassador'.

Maybe he's always wanted to learn the cello. Or be a travel show host.

Its an 8 point game & if we get distracted again we can kiss finals goodbye

I doubt that there is a causal link between me not moving on and the team's success or otherwise.

A good point. Angus will do what he feels liked to do.  But sometimes life also just lays down certain pathways doesn’t it. Given what happened to him next to the fate of the father of his bride  it must be a strong pull.

It's hard to forget and I'm certainly not going to tell people to get over and forget it. Depending on how your friend's wife said it they may have been better off not saying anything at all.

We do need to get on with the job though. I know people that are literally saying that if we don't bury Maynard into the turf they will rip up their memberships. These people should just become boxing or MMA fans if they want a fight.

But something that is overlooked in these discussions is that he played 167 games, is a premiership player (who played one of his finest games in the Grand Final) and that he was among the top ten club players in his final year.

Now recall when he was first at the club, when he suffered repeated concussions and missed long stretches of training and playing. At that time it seemed he would have no real career at all. But he recovered to take part, and play a key role in a ground-breaking premiership.

I am triggered by the Maynard incident as much as anyone. Don't let that detract from an understanding of the fact that Angus was almost lost to us and the game years earlier. Awareness of that is, for me at least, some solace whenever his name comes up. What he gave us can be seen as a bonus over what might have been, had he not taken on the helmet to keep his Mum happy.

Great post Pitmaster.  What I have come to realise is that our anger is largely a function of the pathetic handling of Maynard and denial of any form of justice thanks to weak management by the AFL.

Maynard's a thug and despite what his Mum complains about will have this as his lifelong legacy. I will move on re: him.

I'm going today and will rue watching Maynard, but resolutely cheer for the Gawn/Viney led dees.  As Buckley said, today is not about the result, but the effort providd. The result will take care of itself.

My contempt for the AFL in-house club, with Laura Kane just another second rate member continuing the tradition (remember last week's doctor/concussion send off  comment by her - "nothing to see here!) will simply continue.

The best way to honor Gus today is to beat the Pies

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of roughing up of Maynard. No problem letting him know that we're there at every opportunity.

True probably the last thing he might want to do. 

Can only be resolved by having the conversation with him which I am sure someone is doing.

Im sure if he wanted to play cello or be a travel show host he would do it thoroughly and well. He has shown so much dedication and effort to be the best he will succeed in whatever path he engages in.

Dunno where he is at the moment but his family or his agent or whoever should just book him a couple of business class flights to Europe - spend a month or 2 drinking wines and beers in the warmer weather and get ready for the next stage of life. 

The Age interview with Goody did mention that Angus was travelling at the moment.

Sadly, James Brayshaw just did the big freeze slide and said he was due to go down with Angus but Gus had 'other things to contend with at the moment'. Hope he's doing ok
