As for a farewell, some believed it was out of character for him to not come and greet us after the Bulldogs game since the sea of Gussy helmets was a great spectacle. But I think he didn’t want a big deal made of it for the aforementioned reason. If anyone wonders when he’ll ‘get over it’ they’re wasting their time. It may take years… who knows? He may never get over it.

Like everyone else, I really hope he finds peace and happiness in every facet of his life, but maybe it’s not that simple.

It would be too raw and gut wrenching. being so close to the action but not able to really be a part of it...

Nice of the club to offer but I can understand that he would rather keep his distance for a time.

We really miss him as a player but probably not half as much as he misses playing.

The Melbourne Football Club have been pioneers in football we invented the game, invented the father son rule with Barassi, started the Irish experiment,  got the womens game off the ground lead by Daisy who is now a team mascott, changed our name first to an indigenous one on the back of Whelan.

I have a feeling we will be the first supporter base to cheer an opposition player rather than boo them when we play the Bulldogs and Darcy goes near it.

This friend of one of our players said that when this player relates the story he does so with “rage in his voice” and is still really angry that the AFL “smoothed things over for Collingwood.”

Thanks for sharing that WCW.

Doesn't help with the sadness of it all but it does give us a greater insight to the injustice of it all and how it's left not just Angus but the whole playing group/club feeling.

when we play them

no one shakes hands with him

no one looks at him

No one speaks to him

But someone makes life really uncomfortable for him all game

like every time he’s near the ball he needs to fear 

we need someone to be a sacrificial lamb

im also down for some really dirty sledging . This is not my normal modus operandi but I’d be involving some talk about his family whilst he’s in the vicinity 

try to encourage him to do something really silly

really really get under his skin

A lot of people are happy he wasn’t concussed last night because that means he plays next week. I personally wish he wasn’t playing. The emotions elicited by seeing him out there will be overwhelming, but in a bad way. Overwhelming joy, excitement, surprise, happiness and even nervousness or sadness, I can handle. But overwhelming rage is a whole different thing, it’s something from which nothing good is achieved. 😑

You can understand why so many can’t stand the AFL Administration.

I believe that without Maynard they lose the PF to GWS ( 1 point win ) and if they did get to the GF, they lose that couple points win.

The AFL imo was never going to rub him out, just like the absurd technical garbage overturn of Cripps suspension to allow him to win the Brownlow, while Ah Chee missed the finals.

Yes and it would've been some mild karma had he missed next week. Alas....

Wonder if viney is going to floor him. Hate thug acts, but would cheer if someone gave him a left right 100m behind the ball

that puts things into some perspective. I wonder , aside from feeding the collingwood hype train with the inflow of dollars that comes with that etc, why would the AFL feel so adamant that he not get suspended?

So if true, the AFL decided before the Tribunal hearing that he would get off.

 I fully agree that this is true. Moreover, I believe from the moment he decided to flatten Gus the AFL knew he’d get off. But they had to look as though they were doing something about the zeitgeist, the head is sacrosanct, remember? So they made a case against him, except it was a flimsy half-baked attempt which they knew was destined to fail. It was patently obvious they didn’t want the outcome we all wanted, ie. the right and fair outcome. They made a mockery of the tribunal/appeals system in the process.

They didn’t want him suspended because they didn’t want anything to jeopardise Collingwood’s journey to a premiership. This meant, among other things, having every player available for the remainder of the finals.
