Angus Brayshaw Forced into Retirement

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Another difference between a bung knee and a head injury retirement is that at players routinely return to the game with all kinds of knee injuries and even repeated major injuries to the knee.

It is also largely possible to go on to a normal healthy life (with a caveat for possible pain) with a knee injury.

A head injury like the one which Brayshaw must now retire in order to avoid would be like a leg injury which left the player permanently unable to walk.

Bonus point - leg injuries happen in often innocuous ways and are almost never the result of preventable dangerous or malicious play, whereas many head injuries are a product of a deliberate, reckless or negligent act by an opponent.

Brayshaw is retiring because of a significantly preventable unsafe work environment.

I've noticed more and more fans from different clubs booing goal kickers. I don't think it's something we do as fans. Really does my head in. Why would you do it unless they had form? I think it's very unAustralian  but I must be wrong.

Agree 100%.   Exception of course is M^&*$#ard

Can't wait for KB, that's the only time I will watch Collingwood. Except if we play them again during the finals.

Hopefully the Magpies won't even make finals

These pies fans must go to a different Centrelink than most people if they can afford $90 tickets.

Presumably they enrol under multiple names.

Sydney got SC relief when Paddy McCartin retired due to concussion, his payout was outside their SC. The precedent has been set

Also, didnt Adelaide get SC relief when someone retired due to concussion? Was it Tippett? Can't quite recall the name

Tradies podcast Mitch Cleary stated AFL will pay the majority and the dees will pay very little of his contract.

It’s not really about who ‘pays’ tho; it’s about whether it’s counted in our salary cap for the next six seasons or not

Clarification, against the cap. Mitch thought there would be a minimal cap hit with most of the contract going outside the cap

  • 4 weeks later...

We are currently 2 short on our list without Gus and Smith, usual issue of injuries aside.

As they were senior players, not just backups, it is more significant.

Anyone know what Gus is up to? I haven’t seen him on the bench since the game against the Dogs. Is he still doing this?

He’s opened a wine bar in Richmond

Apparently it’s dog friendly too

Does anyone know what's gonna happen to the podcast? I really liked listening to him and Max on a weekly basis.

Further to my post re Nathan Murphy’s forced retirement, Shaun told me in January that Nathan’s contract had been extended by three years.
It means we may have the Pies in our corner when it comes to negotiating with the AFL re ‘compensation’ as regards the salary cap.

Sad news for Murphy. Never good to have someone retire with brain injuries.

Maynard still sleeping like a baby tho 🙄😡

I’m not sure. Nathan told yesterday. Maybe a ‘farewell’ session. Craig Kelly phoned Nathan immediately and offered him a position at the club. Nathan also in line for a large payout (from the Players’ fund?).

I assume Gus also in line for a similar payment, albeit small consolation.

Pit bulls aren't. Ugly inbred looking things. Trained to be aggressive by clueless owners that defend them online. Sounds familiar.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
