Thank you @sam6172 for creating what had the potential to be a wonderful and very welcome thread right now. Sadly, it’s become unreadable, for me anyways.

Same goes for DL in general, tbh. Way too many drainers. I need to do a Luci, and take a break.

WCW out, for now 👋

There are some of us who want to find the problems and fix them and there are others who keep denying problems exist

i know how hard the Media are going to attack us, they will be relentless on this one

We need to win early games this year…

Every thread has devolved into the same argument/debate.

The season can’t start soon enough.

I agree some early wins will certainly take the wind out of the sails of a media that doesn't seem to rate truth and credibility anywhere near as highly as it should. I think there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about what we might be able to achieve this year, we will need a lot of things to fall our way, but that's not different to any other year.

I find it incredibly interesting the talk of deep cultural issues being linked to a team with 3 consecutive top 4 finishes, a premiership in the AFL, VFL and AFLW, stability on all levels, record membership, the vast majority of required players re-signing long term and year on year profits. I'd say with a reasonable degree of confidence most other clubs would absolutely love to have this sort of a record.

What i've stated is fact though, it's not media hyperbole. we've had an incredibly successful 3 year period by virtually all measures and realistically we've probably underachieved slightly based on what a club in our position is capable of. it's very hard to marry that up with the suggestion we are an absolute basket case with massive cultural problems.

Yes we have underachieved, considering the talent that has been on our list. Why?

Let’s find out.
the latest issue is very serious and could well be a big factor in that underachieving.

Everbody has got to be Rock Solid on board, Standards have slipped, doesn’t have to be by much

A couple of levels of irony here.

This is a thread started by a new poster asking posters to consider uniting behind our team and stop fighting amongst ourselves.

The site owner follows up with a post noting he wholeheartedly agrees with this message of unity between fans

You ask me this question:

'Surely even your confidence is a little dented watching this unfold?

I answer your question respectfully ('no, not at all').

Then add some words i hoped might contribute to the spirit of this thread - lets unite behind one of the oldest and greatest sporting clubs in the world. Our club.

I didn't ask you for any editorial feedback.

But you gave it anyway.

Waffle.

Again, in the spirt of the thread, i didn't bite, and instead made a self deprecating joke.

Again, I was not asking for any feedback

But you gave it anyway.

'You fell a little short, about the English Channel gap'

Perhaps you were trying to be funny and not trying to have another dig at me. Only you know the answer to that and frankly i don't care. But so there is no confusion, I didn't find it funny.

The second level of irony?

Claiming people are triggered by your suggestion we might slide. As i have noted i have not seen evidence of anyone being triggered by your assessment of where we are at.

But I appear, for whatever reason, to trigger you.

And if i were honest i find unnecessary rudeness, for example having a shot at me for no apparent reason in consecutive posts in a thread calling for unity, a little bit triggering. I don't get it. But each to their own i guess.

So, for the sake of both of our mental health i'm popping you on ignore. Life is too short for silly back and forths on a footy forum.

I'm telling you this because i don't want you to think I'm being rude when i don't reply to any more questions from you.

Enjoy the season rooster.

Spot on.

Any dees supporter who was a fan in the late 70s to the late 80s knows what a woeful culture looks like - and this ain't it.

I'll never forget RDB's reaction when he came home to the club to coach. He couldn't believe how bad the culture of the club had become. He was legitimately shocked.

I find it amazing that people take so much notice of a gossip columnist that uses anonymous quotes to sensationalise his reporting of this story.

I agree with you, but if you look at Geelong, who are held up as being arguably the benchmark for football culture in modern AFL history, their most recent 20 years has included a lot of years when they've dominated home and away and not quite been rewarded on the level they probably expected. I think the reason has a lot more to do with how difficult premierships are to win and how much you need going right for you to win them, then it does anything the cats have done or their culture.

I agree mate, but i still don’t think we have been as focused and tuned in as we were in ‘21, to me that is where the forward conversion has played a part.

"Truth will set you free".

Young men with money, time, and the psychological issues of being thrust into the limelight, expecting to be greater than they believe themselves to be, and any associated trauma of growing up, what could go wrong!

Mistakes are made, I don't see it as serious and really could be just a medical/psychiatric/psychological intervention away from those afflicted being the best they can be. Rip the bandaid off quickly and get on with it.

As for us supporters, I can see what Sam and those positive about us are expressing.

I expressed protagonists require antagonistic, now upon reflection I can see, we can all get along and rally behind the "unified" sentiment of Sam, and what they were trying to get across.

All for one and one for all, in this "broad church" of the MFC.

Thanks Sam

Or the "Bloods" and their culture, what is it ?, 2 premierships in the last 20 years? 🤔

By "Us" I mean Demon supporters as a whole, on every platform. I truly believe it's never been this bad. The infighting, gossip, completely unfounded rumours and trash talk is completely ruining what used to be a few different places to dribble a bit of [censored] about the footy no matter the result

The current societal landscape reflects a prevailing sense of discontent and heightened sensitivity among individuals. Many express anger and seek reasons to take offense, while feeling constrained in articulating their true thoughts due to concerns of backlash or social ostracization. This phenomenon is particularly evident on online platforms, notably social media, where anonymity and lack of verification facilitate a culture of venting grievances.

I think it is closer to 2 "Bloods" flags in 90 years. 🤣

Man, dunno what’s happened on this site over summer but holy [censored]…. Feels like a funeral in here. Remember this is a ball game yeah? Supposed to be fun?

It’s more than a game. Taking into consideration all the fortune or fame, it’s more than a game.

Hey everyone, I’ve been overseas for the last four months. What’s been happening?

[censored] you’re right. I didn’t even think about the fortune or the fame. Now this is serious.

It’s all smoke and mirrors, and nothing to see here.

Sadly we haven’t evolved from ‘21

That’s the point, in such a competitive competition, you must evolve.
We still play the same style, that is why people are concerned

Goodwin gets outcoached in BIG GAMES far too often, because he is reactive during a match, and those who don’t think it’s a problem, or ridicule posters for bringing it up, are not looking closely enough

Soz man.

Don't worry, on March 7th at around 11pm demonland will be beautiful again.

I have to say, the forum has turned a little feral recently. I reckon we should all take a chill pill, stop taking pops at each other (I’m as guilty as anyone) and save our ire for opposing fans.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
