The club tried the key position premiership defender out twice as a forward only to be thwarted by injuries. His six goals against the Tigers signaled a promising career there if he can recover and stay on the ground in 2024.

HP is a great quandary to have, he has shown that he is an excellent backman and now also has the makings of a VG forward. We are all hoping that Harrison can get out on the park more Consistently in ‘24 and help hold the forward line together for us. Good luck HP.

Harrison will play a vital role in premiership calculations.

If fully fit he has so much to offer as a forward - strong marking, leading, kicking set shots, yet also a serious option as a (Premiership) defender if needed.

Great hands and can kick straight. Not a bad defender either!

Injury profile a big concern. He misses a lot of games. A fit and firing Petty will be a huge boost to our chances.

The elephant in the room is the crows. they'll come after him again next trade period. And I reckon he'll go.

He also spend long minutes on the bench lots of games getting assessed.

Agree he will most likely go end next season hence we need to get, and keep him fit this coming season and it will certainly put us in line for another flag.

Yes he is so he only goes if we get adequate compensation for him.

Gone...

Preparing myself for the Jackson like platitudes.... "We can only get what they are prepared to give etc"

At the very least by staying he's stuffed up the long term salary cap planning. Bit like TMac when he went forward and we had to give him a big salary hike.

With TMac, BBB and Thommo off contract at the end of this year, the club has plenty of money to throw elsewhere. If Petts comes back with a bang, the club will offer up a good amount of money. I think I heard someone within the club saying they will be spending more time and effort in keeping Petts more connected with his family in 2024.

Harry is already a super defender, and he looks capable of becoming a very good forward as well. That is potentially a great problem for the club to have if (a) he can get his body right and (b) he is prepared to sign a long term contract to stay here.

Seems to me Petty was a bit inconsistent with his slight frame injured and he got pushed around  bit when originally in defence.

He became a bit stronger and was just developing as a solid addition to the defence, then moved to forward as an almost emergency option.

He flourished and added some accuracy to the forward line and was a great fixture when our options were limited.

He is now a very valuable component of any team, of course this does make him more attractive to Adelaide. They seem prepared to pay a premium for him.

I would be saying to him this season is significant for him but more importantly the club and the team. We dont want to lose him and see him as a valuable long term Demon premiership player. But his value will be determined by his performance. If we win the flag this year and he contributes to that he will be even more attractive to Adelaide and will be able to command a healthy salary. We would then consider if we continue our progress to further flags with or without him. His ($$) value would be at maximum.

If he plays poorly and doesnt contribute his value ($$$) would decrease and we would likely retain him to realise his full potential.

I see his season as a great portent of the teams season. This discussion should be held privately and then transparently to his teammates, who would be given a similar message, Value is based on success, you will be given every opportunity for success at this club.

Other clubs (Adelaide) will know that we value our players and they will have to make premium offers to entice them away from us.

To be fair, Loges didn’t immediately answer himself, a whole two minutes elapsed. @forever demons on the other hand… a textbook sermocinator if ever I saw one. 🙃

I sat in the Ponsford and saw close up most of his bag against Richmond this season. That convinced me that this guy is one of the answers to our forward problems. He made the Tiger backline look inept with his reading of the ball coming in and his ability to lose his designated defender and run at the ball, mark it with clean hands and then actually convert!

If he can stay fit he could be one of the best KPF in the game, hopefully for us.

I wonder if we requested Adel + Port in consecutive weeks for gather round, for that reason. To get our turn out of the way early and still gain something from it: A happier Harrison. It would give him plenty of time with family in that 3 week or so bookended period while the club potentially stays in Adelaide during games.

Dunno. You’re the textbook spermocinator… you should know 😉

Now I’m picturing Arnie menacingly strolling through the city streets brandishing a giant sex toy in each hand…

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
