Now that our season is pretty much over i think we should try a few things, as well as younger players we should also try positional changes.

a few years when rivers was drafted it was said that he was a chb/chf. They way our forward line is atr the moment i would like to see him thrown up at chf. Give fergie a go down back. He is dominating down at sandy!!!

Just things like that, any other ideas?

Posted

why not?

Give Fergy a decent run and allow him to string a few together rather than play him one week, then drop him back to Sandy. Give him a chance to show what he can do. At season's end we have a better idea whether he can help our list going forward. I don't think he can help, but he needs a decent go.

I'm sure Rivers could be a good CHF. Problem is he is our best defender. So that is a no to your idea.

I think Daniher is trying a couple things already. Davey is playing like an onballer pushing deep into defence. Dunn is being played off the wing.

Right now I'd like to see Neitz pushed up to CHF and who ever is playing out of Miller or Robbo at FF. I thought Neitz looked suprisingly mobile when up the ground against the Bulldogs. If he plays up the ground they can't double team him. It also might make us a bit more direct. He is a smart player and will move to the right spots.

Id love to see Rivers play forward the rest of the season

Give him CHF.

He could be the next Neitz. Started down back then went forward a few years into his career. And the rest was history.

I also want Colin to get a lot time at FF

Dunn as a midfielder

Newton to get a chance

Posted

Rivers will never be like Neitz - he would make a handy floating forward type, potentially very good half forward type.

Neitz never made it a CHF so why try now. onlt in tip top form does he do well there.

Sylvia will be a very good power forward for the moment as they try to get some run into him. You will no doubt see him in the midfield down the track. Big thing for him to is to get out there often enough. Where he plays is secondary for us at the minute.

Daniher is doing a great job with Dunn who is showing he has more strings to his bow. may serve a role like Martin Pike down the track who knows?

where will be Petterd's best positon ??

Try Neitz at CHF and Newton FF, mainly we have to find a tighter backline, I believe our backline has been our major weakness for several years, remember lumbering Al Nicholson !, I knew we could never get anywhere with him there. Our backline are not strong enough, fast enough, big enough or skillful enough, enough said !

How long since we have had a strong backline that gave us drive, how long since we have taken the ball from kickout to a goal as the better teams seem to do regularly. The forward line is not the problem, the backline and the delivery to forwards are our greatest problems

i would like to see frawley played in the backpocket position, and given some tough jobs on quicker forwards as well as guerilla forwards to see whether he can handle it.

he will take over ben holland eventually so we need to test him against the bigger bodied boys.

newton to play atleast 10 games this year as a forward. and given lots of game time.

sylvia to eventually move to the midfield (remember he is only unfit because he hasn't had a preseason)

pettard to play full games for the entire season. buckley to play 10 games.

P.Johnson to play a more rucking role. with jamar no longer a viable option, he must become a solid ruckman to compliment his around the ground ability. he will be important to our team if he can become a competant ruckman.

i would lastly like to see guyz like ward, brown and holland to slowly be given less and less game time and eventually dropped altogether to be replaced by youngsters. they are all decent footballers but they are not our future.

I cant see the sense of taking Rivers out of an undermanned backline to play forward. Your attempt to create a strenght just creates a critical hole.

D Disciple, Ferg has been on the list for five years...what dont we know about Ferg?? He is a good VFL player... period who comes up short in the AFL and his courage does not cover for these shortfalls.

Neitz is 32 and still carrying his knee injury. If we want to keep Neitz going for another two years then its a pipedream having him at CHF. Why would you start Newton in a KPP? Why wouldn't he start on the HFF or FP until he shows he can go with the AFL pace and pressure.

While I am ambivalent of Holland, who do you replace him with? Ferg..no thanks. Buckley, Newton, Weetra or Neville...no match up.

hes right....

wat if rivers becomes a CHF.... our backline has been our weakest department for the last EVER.... BAD MOVE

makes no sense to try him anywhere else

Maybe we can send Davey to CHB, play Jamar and PJ on opposite wings. Neitz can have a run in the ruck alternating with Robbo. Brock to play FB when he comes back in. Bell leading out of the square.

Maybe the players can draw positions out of a hat prior to the game.

Im all for trying new things :D

I would like to see Neitz stay inside the forward 25m area one on one, not many ful backs can match his strength, with Robbo or Newton as our hard leading forward. I want to try and get another 3 years out of Neita and this is the only way, play like Alistar Lynch did for the last 4-5 yeaars of his carrear. I would love to see in our centre square bounce PJ ruck, Mclean, Jones and Sylvia with Johnstone and Johnson of the wings.

Try Ben Holland for the rest of the year @ Sandringham. We could only benefit from that.

Posted

No point in trying new things, if they will only disrupt our structure.

Rivers is our best defender, period. We will achieve nothing by taking him out of the backline, where he is so good and very much needed.

Apart from Dunn on the wing, which I think is a good move, and PJ being given time to prove he should be on our list next year, I would really love to see Bell released into the midfield when Whelan and Bartram return. Not fussed if he plays on the wing, or as a tagger, but I think it's time to unleash Belly :D

Would also love to see CJ given game time on the wing or half-forward line... hell, give him game time in the ruck for all I care, I just want him to prove that he has what it takes!

14 players in the back 50 at centre bounces, then all flood forward. tops!

Posted

Things I'd like to see:

- Newton in the FP

- S.Buckley on the HBF

- C.Johnson played for at least half a season.

- Miller on a wing

- Frawley's debut

- Neaves promoted due to Bizzell retiring

- Neitz playing 300 ganes

I'd like to see the same thing too, i also wouldn't mind seeing moloney rested for the season, with his OP and all

and with all you guys on fergs, i wouldn't mind seeing some other fringe players, so if we are lucky they might raise their trade value or perhaps prove themselves as handy depth.

reverse the spine (sort of)!

neitz chb, rivers to chf, carroll to full forward (imagine the full back's reaction) and dunn to fb. wow!

to be honest on the topic of rivers, i don't mind where the kid plays, he's just great to watch. never seen someone read the game so well. but i do think him being the loose backman is his best position.

Posted

I would love to see what the hype is around Newton so lets give him a run in the fp. However if he didnt get a game whilst Neitz and Robbo not there his chance might have passed with our moron coach once again neglecting him.....

I want Chris Johnson to prove ro me that he can actually play and Davey to spend some time as a rebounding half back flanker like Wirra/McLeoud....

Paul Johnson to play perdominantly ruck and White to spend lots of time forward as he's a quality kick for goal.

Dont know enough on simon Buckley but it couldnt hurt to give him a run in front of a Brown or Godfrey...

Things to try?

I'd like to see them score more points than the opposition, please.

But maybe I'm easy ;):P ?!!!

Posted

B: Frawley Carrol Bell

HB: Buckley Rivers Johnson

C: Johnstone McLean Bruce

HF: Davey Robertson Green

F: Sylvia Neitz Newton

R: White Jones McDonald

INT: Neaves , Moloney , Pettard , Hughes

Wouldnt mind seeing that team run out for a game later on in the year. i know there are some notable ommisions; Whelan for example but if you want to try new players and new things people are going to miss out somewhere.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
