Goodwin just needs to shut it down. Put the players who need it into surgery to give them the best chance of recovery and the best chance of a long pre-season. Oliver needs the biggest and longest pre-season he's ever had. He's a shell of himself and clearly not fit enough to be playing at this level. Fix up Max Gawn, it's cruel that they're forcing him to play because they don't have any other options, and I don't know what's going on with Viney. But there are a number of players  who are clearly affected by injury.

They need to shut the season down and get the players fixed and come back for a big pre-season.

It’s the same ribs as before, so it may not have taken much to re-injure them.
I suggest it’s season over for him.

May has been playing through adversity the entire season with those broken ribs. Had a chat to him a couple of times and he expressed that his body wasn’t feeling great.

He has been brave this season, but it’s time to let him heal and set his sights on 2025

100%. If they try bring him back this season I will be [censored]!! Time to throw Petty back and see what Fullarton can do as a forward/ruck at AFL level.

I wouldn't be against shutting down Gawn but selfishly he probably needs to play out the year and have a good game in there to secure a 7th AA.

Garry Lyon apparently said Oliver, Viney and Lever all need surgery post season. Just send them in now! Seriously, we don’t have anything to gain playing these guys with 3 games remaining. Get them all 100% ready to go for day 1 of preseason

Sad but true. Now that it’s highly unlikely we make finals , I think we’ll give in and prep for 25.

Going to be a hard watch the next couple- expecting a few spankings.

i personally don't think it would be wise to send everyone off who needs surgery etc. off now, as we already look very short of leadership and senior bodies on the field

based on what seems to be his style of leadership, i can't see gawn wanting to NOT play

it's going to be interesting to see what path we go down for these last games

But it also makes little sense to play injured players when the season is done. It allows them the appropriate recovery time and prep for the 2025 preseason.

Gawn and Viney could use a break.

It all depends on the depth we have in each position. There's no point playing May and Lever at half fitness when Tomlinson, Petty and Turner are options.

Viney at full fitness is irreplaceable, but at half fitness you may as well bring in Brown or (shudder) Laurie.

Gawn is a stubborn fool so I'm assuming he'll keep playing until his leg falls off.

Get most of the guys shut down and play mostly kids.

And if we lose the remaining games the AFL charges us with tanking and bringing “the game” into disrepute? !

Didn't Geelong do that exact thing last year and it set them up well for this year?  Bet they didn't get charged with tanking.

It’s not tanking, it’s preparing for 2025. Giving the future kids a taste and experience of AFL footy.

Playing AMW, Kolt, Windsor and others this year wasn’t seen as tanking. 3 rounds to go does not put the club in danger of bringing the game into disrepute

I was only joking, but you never know what those weirdos at AFL HQ could do.

Yep, can’t trust the AFL. Consistently inconsistent

I made the same joke to spouse.  Response - wouldn't put anything past those bastards at AFL HQ.

You crossed the line there - Max is no fool

Injury List:  Round 22

Steven May — ribs / TBC
Christian Salem — hamstring / 1 - 2 weeks
Caleb Windsor — ankle / 2 - 3 weeks
Charlie Spargo — Achilles / season
Christian Petracca — spleen / indefinite

Why play May or Salem in 2-3 weeks?   Get them ready for preseason.

Time to plan the vegas trip lads

do not upload the whatsapp group chat to the cloud though

If this is not done the club is not giving us the best chance of success in 25.

Trac running again and at the gym, is a good sign. Should be up to decent loads by the time he hits pre season.

He’s the ultimate professional, so think it will be more mental for him

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
