He was put on the injury list after that game, and was listed as 3 weeks in early April. A month later and he is still listed as 3 weeks.

If all goes well from here maybe he gets one Casey game in before the bye, then it is probably July before he can push for senior selection.

If I was a player in that situation, particularly given the depth in my position, I would be absolutely furious as to how the injury has been managed.

Maybe, maybe not.   But I agree it seemed a weird decision to play him round zero.

Sure, Salem aside they are on the 18-26 level of players but the tank is running thin when you add in Brayshaw and Smith as well

Even though “it is only WCE” the loss again of two big forwards in one week throws us a challenge.

Nobody is overlooking or forgot the fact that we’ve lost Brayshaw on this side. He is an enormous loss and we will not be able to fill the hole he’s left on our list, neither from a leadership nor versatility perspective. 

He is sorely missed and I dream at night of Maynard getting hit by the karma bus.

@Jaded No More I think perhaps this is a different point.

It's one thing to not have Brayshaw anymore, it's another to not have a replacement for him on the list.

We're not on our own there though - Collingwood's in the same boat with Murphy and the Dogs today lost O'Driscoll.

But for us we also have Smith inactive on the list too, without a replacement. So as @Farmer says, we're two down in terms of players available for selection before you even start with the injury list, which is now up to 7, most of whom are forwards (JVR, Turner, Melksham, Spargo - Smith being a 5th forward).

Depth is important. Turner and Hore are in best 24

And it’s not a perfect science, Andy. Not even close. Repeating an annual refrain, injuries, injury management, projected return to play, and outcomes of RTP are all a ‘best anticipated based on what’s known at any given moment’ situation and projection. What people fail to factor in are the personalities and psychology of any given player. They ALL struggle psychologically with not being able to do the thing they’re paid for - their beloved day job. As such, anything from fear of re-aggravation to denial of possible re-aggravation, or even of a problem to begin with, have to be factored in. It’s incredibly tricky, and fluid, and on a case to case basis, often really hard to predict. We know what we know about the physical nature of injuries of course, and the biomechanics causing them, then what’s ’physically’ required for RTP, but that’s still just a corner of the picture. The predictable lament by some, maybe many (not you of course 😉) - “he’s STILL 4 weeks away, how can that be? Are they incompetent?” - reveals, to put it kindly, a mind-numbingly repetitive misunderstanding of injuries and injury management.

There is nothing wrong with the timelines, as long as people understand they are only an approximate guide.

 I wasn’t targeting you, just seemed a good jumping off point. Non-reporting of projected timelines is never going to happen. There’d be a melt-down. People should be smart enough to educate themselves on the reality of injuries, and should be encouraged in that way. As with injuries as a whole in the AFL however, they’re largely under-commented on. Particularly as relates to club fortunes and impact on success, of course. You know It’s a tough man’s game and all that, so we shouldn’t complain.

Body mass has disappeared from the public purview subject to the new hysteria about self image. Is Time now on the chopping block of societal sensitives as well? My mass seems to increase with time (sigh)... since mass increases with increased velocity then it stands to reason that you can lose weight by sitting on the couch watching AFL 360.

The good news is that Shane McAdam is another week closer to debuting and Tom Fullarton May have only had a bug, neither have been listed as injured. However feel for Marty Hore and Daniel Turner as there is a window for both of them right now.!!

Given the volume of historical data on AFL player injury recovery times and ranges, these should be given next to a specific players estimated time to recover.

ie Turner - mild calf strain - 2-3 weeks (club estimate) - 2-6 weeks (AFL recovery range).

You are possibly right Webber you have a good handle on these things, however old enjoyed habits/knowledge die that little bit harder and tend to go against a hardened grain.😁

3-4 for Turner is a shame. Starting to be an issue for him - being fit and available, that is. 

Daniel Turner and Marty Hore must be two very unlucky or fragile types of players.  Hore has been injured for majority of his return.  Got back and now copped more injuries.  Turner has played max 3-4 games then injured again for likely 3-5 weeks. Hugely disappointed as both show to be handy players when fit and available.

Well the two selections were made in successive games by our Club it’s just that there  was 6 months between games!! Last years semi and opening round 2024. 
Both were massive disasters. Perhaps Charlie should have been Sub for OR 2024 in hindsight and Schache played in that game. . 

Gutted about Turner and was really hoping for a steady month long block of forward time.
