Casey coach Taylor Whitford has confirmed that Campbell Hustwaite has joined the Casey Demons for the 2024 season.

Hustwaite was with Collingwood VFL for five seasons and co-captained the Pies for the last three years with another Magpie VFL stalwart, Lachlan Tardrew.

He came from the Dandenong Stingrays and is still only 23 years of age. Standing at 184cm, he has been highly regarded as a midfielder and for his leadership going all the way back to his TAC Cup days.

“He is the type of player who bleeds for the club he represents and if you want midfielders with grunt and tenacity, Hustwaite seems a great value option. He might not be flashy like some others, but his contested work and leadership is something clubs should take into account when considering players who could improve the culture of a club.”  - Campbell Hustwaite

He trained with the Magpies for an AFL opportunity during this summer’s pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP) and, from all accounts, was close to winning a place on their list.

I think it’s a great selection for Casey given the loss of such a great VFL campaigner in Jimmy Munro. Hustwaite should go a long way towards filling the immense void of talent and experience left by Munro’s departure and by playing with one of the competition’s strengths should do his AFL aspirations no harm.

Its a double win as if melbourne are looking for a inside mid depth/replacement come midseason draft time he would already be in the system and know many of the players.

I watched Caleb Lewis in the ammo's last year. The kid is a serious talent. Beveridge borrowed him for 5 games in the VFL which cost St Bedes a spot in the finals. That is such a good pick up

Agree @Older demon a smart pickup. I think he’s one to watch this year. Played juniors at Sandy Dragons and was impressive. Key defender who also can go forward and kick goals.  Had 2 years at amateur level and building up his frame.

With Gus' list spot likely to be taken via an additional pick at the mid season draft (?), could Roan Steele get a look in?

Has always impressed me - has composure by the bucket load and seems to consistently be a player who gets them going when they're down

Agree. Definitely not a downhill skier. Judging by his game against the VFL Bulldogs in the Elimination final last season. Kicking 5 goals out of a team total of ten was an impressive performance. Considering most of momentum was going the opposite way.

Would like to know the body weight too. Gives an idea of the physical stature of the player.

Newton’s laws of the motion can’t be applied without the mass. Maybe the people who are running ‘the show’ should supply sideshow mirrors.

Roan Steele. Absolutely would be on a list of players for addition in mid season draft.  His improvement is great to see. He is young, smart, fit and loves a goal.  Would already be ahead of Chandler, Spargo etc in my eyes.

The AFL has adopted a policy of not releasing the body weights of individual players. Apparently, this has something to do with not body shaming fat or thin footballers so the media only gets supplied with height figures. Please don’t get me started on this one.

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

    RAIN CHECK by Whispering Jack

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds. After a slow start in the opening term when they failed to take advantage of the breeze, it appeared that the Demons had decided
