North Melbourne has 2, 3, 13, 17, 18 and early second rounders plus their future first, a 24 end of first round pick

If they want Harley Reid, they will get him

North don’t have pick 13.. they have 15.

you also realise that pick 2 doesn’t help WC. They want curtin who will be around at pick 6. North won’t give up pick 2,15 and 18 for pick 1. It’s a poor decision for a club trying to build a list

your entire point is based on a baseless assumption of what North might or might not do. Pick 2, 15 and 18 North would say yes in 5 seconds flat i suspect, it'd be the Eagles that might knock that back. it sounds like they want 2 in the top 5

Hawthorn have pick 4, and their future first.

4, their future 1 plus Brockman which would trump 6, 11 and our future one fairly comfortably given they're likely to finish bottom 6-7 again next year

North aren’t giving up 3 top 20 picks for pick 1.. especially since they won the last game of the year and missed out on top pick

Pick 4, future first and brockman?

brockman is a 3rd round pick at best.

how is that better than 6,11 and future 1st?

Speculation only.

Does an offer of Pick 6, Pickett and a F 1st get consideration from WC for Pick 1?

No because Melbourne wouldn’t trade Pickett after he just signed a 4 year deal.
And Pickett is not going to WC either.

Trade up, trade up, trade up!

Let's do whatever it takes with our picks to get Reid or McKercher

We need the next generation of A grade mids coming through

Reid this year would be brilliant

OK then we are not getting Haynes or pick 7. That ends the deal for pick 1 then. We currently have picks 6, 11, 41 and 46.

46 will probably be used for McAdam.

B: McVee, May, Lever

HB: Rivers, D.Turner, Bowey

C: Langdon, Oliver, Hunter

HF: Petracca, van Rooyen, Neal-Bullen

F: Fritsch, Petty, Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Brayshaw, Viney

IC: Salem, Sparrow, McAdam, Smith

SUB: Chandler

Casey

B: K.Brown (rookie a), Tomlinson, Adams

HB: Howes, pick, pick

C: Woewodin, Laurie, Sestan (rookie a)

HF: Chandler, McDonald, Moniz-Wakefield (rookie b)

F: Jefferson, B.Brown, Schache

FOLL: Fullerton, Spargo, pick

@WERRIDEE Do you have an office magnetic whiteboard similar to the one used by Cameron Schwab for Whiteboard Wednesday's and tinker with our AFL and Casey lineups with surnamed magnets Daily?😂

No interstate club will take curtin with such a high possibility that they will go home. Not worth the risk

That’s incorrect, clubs will back themselves, yes we lost Jackson but our current side has Nibbler, Sparrow, Petty, Pickett, Rivers, Mcvee, Woewodin, Chandler, Rooey and May all interstaters

If Darling to North has wheels, there goes our chance of pick one. North in the driver's seat.

If Petty goes we will land Reid.

North are rebuilding. They have no use for a 31 yo key position player.

We should’ve drafted Darling back in 2010 instead of Lucas Cook. Not much point bringing him in now.

Did you say the same thing about Ben brown?

I guess that would mean only 3 names, JVR, McVee and Rivers. Who would you put forward?

I'm not as enamoured as many for pick 1 if it means using our F1

In the next year or two we need to find A-level KPF, KPD and Ruckman.  The best will require a top 10 pick or even two in the case of a KPF eg JUH (who has put off contract talks to see how next year goes).  Ditto for Ben King.

Can't see us having the currency to get those if we trade out our F1.  It seems many clubs are copying Dodoro and demanding ridiculous trades for even mediocre players who aren't in their best 22.

Unless we have someone on our list/in our sights to replace Brown/McDonald, May, Gawn, I would have been quite happy to trade in another F1 instead of chasing GCS pick 10 (now 11) which will go out to the mid teens.

We could still trade in a F1 (and meet the AFL rule to use 3 picks at the draft):

  • pick 6 for the best available midfielder
  • pick 43 for Brown assuming he nominates us
  • pick 93 to promote Turner

which allows us to cash in pick 11 (and maybe some other 2024 picks) for the best F1 we can get.

But I know it won't happen.

I am a bit ambivalent to getting an ‘A level KPF’ - our forward line is a mess but an amazing tall won’t fix it on his own, and nor can we fix it without a tall threat.

With CP5, Fritsch and Pickett the tall can be a role player. But an effective one.

So with that mindset - the desire to get ND1 and get a talent is the right one because we haven’t been able to go to the elite talent well since 2015 (Pickett aside, and Jackson literally aside).

Get the elite kid.

I'm in the just get him camp.

I have a feeling that whatever is paid will look like a bargain within the next few years.

Exactly. What would you have given up for Petracca?

Why would West Coast trade pick one to us? That would mean they slide down to pick six and probably miss out on Curtin

There is a developing theory amongst recruiters that North, Hawks & Dogs all have put more time into other players, hence a strong chance that Curtin gets through.

North now strongly linked to Duursma & McKercher.

One reason that we are still well in the game.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
