Anyone care to guess how much we were paying Grundy and who that money is being spent on now if anyone? Or are we not maxed out this year?

If you read the post on Brody in D/L you should be able to glean approx. what the deal was. I seem to recall we were paying about $625,000 per season but for quite me.

What is  your point ? Yes it might be available but we have 3 new recruits and have traded Brody Harmes JJ and Hibbo has retired.

Let’s wait and see how Harry goes up forward over the first half the season and how  Adelaide goes and also down back. They may be perfectly happy with Curtain.

So, how much would it cost to arrange a return charter flight in a light aircraft every second week during the season and a few extras during pre-season? Call it 20 return flights a year, at $10k per round trip. Probably get a discount for regular business.

Bonus points we can collect the Tholstrups first and refuel at Wudinna on the way.

Actually, it would probably work out cheaper for the club to just fork out $2m and buy ourselves a Cessna Grand Caravan and have a contracted pilot. Throw in a bit of fun with taking people on tours for the NT games, and we can even offer pilot's licence courses as a bonus for players and staff, we're golden. Would we be able to recoup the half million a year financing and operating costs? Um... maybe?

I suggest we should name it the Petty Wagon.

My point is, Petty’s current wage plus 625k from Grundy plus Harmes, Hibbo, JJ (not on much I’m guessing, pending retirement of BBB and TMac. I can’t see why we can’t offer enough to retain Petty and chase a free agent on big dollars.

The 3 recruits are on base wage for the first 2/3 years.

Because we need 1.1 million for Ben King.

Petty is contracted for 2 more years. It is his foot that is the current dilema.

You are persisting in calling it a dilemma.

While foot issues are complex ( refer Tmac) not all are.

Going by reports from training on the last week he is now starting to do laps and is off the treadmill, more foreword than Tom Lynch  for eg. who anticipates to be avail for Zero/Opening Round/s approx, 7/8 weeks away for both teams.

If his foot injury was an issue why wouldn't he be off it?  Instead of that he's running and jumping around and it's mid January

More so MFCSS and people who delight in thinking the worst

I don’t think we have the luxury of waiting until his contract is up. I believe we need to be proactive this year and scrap his current contract and give him a new one. Some may argue he needs to show more as a fwd, but just on his ability alone as a key defender he can command 7-800K in the open market (look at Ben McKay). If he can dominate as a key fwd then we’re at his mercy.

We can negotiate a new contract tomorrow, as there are changes to the list every year and we probably know in advance several of them.

That is a list manager’s job.

My wild guess is he’s leaving and we’re working on what we need in return.

You have a 50% chance of being correct.

Not sure that qualifies as a wild guess.

Kade Chandler is from a town 300km further away than Harry Petty, seems equally close to his family yet isn't hankering to get back to his home state.

If ever you visit Harrison's home town of Wudinna,  I can highly recommend Wudinna Farm View as a place to stay. Beautifully presented and great value.

The town has terrible inflation, if the pub is any indicator, however.  I had 3 glasses of wine one night, the cost of which rose by $1 each visit to the Bar. A fellow patron brought a 40 pack of smokes - $100. This was over 2years ago.

The Croms will offer Petty a huge contract at the end of 2024

i will be very surprised if he is still playing for us in 2025. that’s the modern game

Any FIFO business that might be affecting it or if it just plain old 'to get here everything has to cross the Wastelands of AwfulDoom and battle the three wardens of Shmargenrock' cost problem?

Right on. AFL players are in the sport/entertainment business with a limited career timeline to make some serious money and set themselves up for life after footy. Petty is no different to anyone else in this regard. I too believe he will go to the Crows at the end of the year unless the MFC decide to offer hime a similar mega contract. I think we should have traded him at the end of 2023 when there was the possibility of a good deal to be made. Love him as a player and really hope he stays but it is not looking good.

We'll be equally placed to offer a big sum with our senior list changes.

Crows came early to see if they could pry him loose when we weren't expecting it.

After another season we'll know full well how his foot has healed, and we'll have more exposed form on Petty as a forward.

By then we'll know if he is worth the massive pay day we'd need to throw at him, and equally we'll know exactly what we'll demand in return.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
