He's pbately played midfield since his knee injury. He's more of a half forward and has been majority of his career.

If you want strong inside midfield depth then Jackson Hately is someone the club may look at.

193cm big bodied midfielder who averaged 24 disposals in the SANFL this year.

He played completely Midfield in the VFL last year, only time he wasn't midfield was when Bevo played him in the AFL and well its Bevo.

Hately is [censored], he is a horrible ball user and even worse decision maker, the fact he can't take Ben Keays place in that side says it all.  If we sign these guys for nothing and as pure VFL depth that's fine, but id be taking McLean over Hately any day.

So yes, he's not AFL midfield material as per what I'm pretty much confirming....

Anyone can look like a star in the VFL playing midfield.

McLean is genuinely [censored]. You're not chucking a small 180cm plodder into any AFL midfield set up.

I brought up Hately purely because he's a like for like with Dunstan in terms of being a full time inside mid. Doesn't mean I want him.

yes but you want someone that can play at AFL level if needed. Hately cant and hasn't been able to at 2 clubs.

McLean at least played 6 AFL games this year and was Emg for the whole back half of the year so he is around the mark in a midfield much much deeper than Adelaide.

Hately got 1 game and wasn't looked at again

Again, it's not my preference for Hately, I'm purely picking him out of the hat as a like for like with Dunstan as per the original question that was asked by @monoccular

McLean is not even a like for like. Dunstan would have played had he was fit when Brayshaw went down in the finals. That in itself is a like for like position. They're both inside midfielders and even in the games where Dunstan played for the Dees last year, he was purely a midfielder.

McLean doesn't even play midfield at AFL level. He's a half forward which we have enough of.

You're never bringing in a 180cm half forward to replace a Oliver, Brayshaw or even Petracca if they miss games.

I know what you are saying, i am disagreeing.  McLean is an inside midfielder as he showed in the VFL.  Just like Dunstan and Hately.

Mclean doesn't play midfield in the AFL because his coach doesn't put him there, which is why he should look for a new club and get a run in his best position.

I don't believe for a second Dunstan would have come in for Brayshaw btw, but we will never know.

I'm purely just saying that McLean is a better option than Hately

I can't see the point of taking either McLean or Hately. All being well, we have a core midfield of Trac, Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw and Sparrow. Kozzie, ANB and Hunter can also be used as inside mids if necessary.

Tim Lamb said in that recent interview that we are happy with our youth coming through, so I take that to mean that Laurie, Woey, Howes and AMW will be given opportunities. Plus hopefully we draft a couple of mids with our early selections.

If Dunstan couldn't get a game when we were hit by injuries, I can't see the club pursuing McLean or Hately.

If Bevo won't play McLean as a midfielder at AFL level then there is no way Goody will.

If he’s not picked up (probably unlikely to be), I’d think Xavier O’Neill would be a good train on player over the summer and potentially a Casey recruit.  Melbourne boy, drafted by the Weagles in 2019 pick 28. Strong build and good pace. Good skills.  Tackling was a strength throughout junior years and in his AFL stretch.  As noted in some eagles sites, he was often the whipping boy for Simpson. Often picked as a sub or dropped after one poor performance.  His stats are often low due to limited minutes as a sub over 2022 and 2023. At 23 and five seasons in an AFL system, it’s a chance to him to come home and put in hard work to try to impress.

Out-of-contract Hawk Lachie Bramble has been told to wait for a decision on his future. Bramble is quick.  Sometimes I think we need another fast mover in the outside. Similar to Markov at the Pies.  Very much a line breaker.  Plays a physical style of footy.  He seemed to be overlooked by the Hawks due to Jiath and Scrimshaw playing the half back roles, and younger guys like Macdonald on the wing.

THE WESTERN Bulldogs have provided Lachlan Bramble with a second chance, signing the delisted Hawk after the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP) opened on Monday.

The 25-year-old has started training with Luke Beveridge’s squad, with the main group reporting back for pre-season training a week after the club's first to fourth-year players.

Bramble played 30 games across three seasons at Waverley Park, including 11 appearances in 2023, after being signed by the Hawks via the SSP at the start of 2021.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
