Aimee Mackin is playing her 2nd ever game of AFL. Next year she will be our best player

I thought I was optimistic saying 2 years!

But I suspect it will only be Hore and Hanks in competition.

This team is something special!

How they adapt to each oppositions strengths is just exceptional. Cats were super tough at the footy early and we just ramped it up around the footy and took away their strength whilst allowing the rest of our game to shine. Unbelievable! So rapt for them ❤️💙❤️💙

I had to be in transit for the final quarter so didn't get to watch it, but based on what I saw when I opened the laptop back up when I got home, it was a big and exciting final quarter.

WHAT!?

Very impressive again. Cats brought the heat early but we absorbed it, steadied and put them to the sword.

We’re a very well-oiled machine and a joy to watch. Ball movement and connection first rate.

Purcell, Heath, Mithen and West all cracked in. Pearce good in the ruck.

Paxy very good. She doesn’t seem to be aging at all. Zanker physical and a handful for the cats defence

Hore with the votes. Outstanding again.

Aimee Mackin with flashes of brilliance. Reckon she’ll be better than her sister. We’ve hit the jackpot with those 2

14 in a row. Fantastic consistency. Smashing all comers so far this season.

This team just don’t look like losing. What a pleasure it is to watch them play

Methodical.

Its so commanding - you get annoyed when players aren’t perfect. The connection they have with each other on the counter is pure gold and glory.

The men’s team can learn something from this group when it comes to decision making and using hands and not panicking around the 50.

Decent crowd on the camera side and that Aimee Mackin move off the back flank toward centre wing was absolute dynamite.

How great to watch are these women!?!? Brilliant. Their end to end handball chains for goals are the standout. And the last quarters - wow.

But who was that commentator? Lots of ex-footballers and commentators show bias, but she was grumpy, ungracious and unable to even commentate about the Dees. She often just went silent when someone gave us a compliment.

On top of the ladder with a % of 306.9 after 5 games. Not too shabby at all.

Can anyone do the math on that last quarters stat for this year? Must be something like 140 points for / 5 points against.

Can’t wait to watch the game later!

Best win of the year. Geelong had a real go but just lack polish. 49 points against a side pushing top 4 is great. Imagine if we had Harris in rhe fwd line. Even bigger test next week. Hore, Paxman, Zanker and Pearce our best. Hanks was great as well. Love it when Goldie gets the ball as it is real heart in mouth stuff that.

Is one of the Cats players wearing a hair net? Looks like she’s stumbled out of a tuck shop

Did she have a ciggie hanging out of her mouth?

No team has kicked a goal against Dees in 4th quarter this season! 🤯

...or the 9 games before that!

If my quick maths is correct, 4th quarters are 125 points for and 4 points against, the last 3 rounds the opposition in fact hasn't scored a point in the 4th. Incredible.

Holy heck! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

I thought the Hawks got fumbly last week because they're at that standard.

But tonight I realised it happens because that's what this Melbourne team makes the opposition. Real pressure becomes implied pressure, and, the real pressure still continues, unabated.

Crows and Suns game on Sunday evening will be a worth a watch. haven't seen the Crows play yet but the commentators reckon they're our nearest rival. Suns are decent so will hopefully test them. North and Lions aren't as good as us based on their game last week.

Kate Hore has sublime skills, would give most men a run for their money. And always good to get a win at the dunghole of a place.

Loved seeing the women live. The way they all crack in.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
