I should imagine if the Bun plays...he's playing as a ruck. We actually go ok with him rucking.  Of the 2 Max is the more versatile ( imo )

What we know is if we do the same...result's the same.

Need to do something a bit lateral.... or it's  over before it starts.

Can we please recruit this Tim Miller, whomever he is, as our forward coach?

You'd have to wonder what Schache must be thinking if Disco is potentially ahead of him as a forward option.

This is such a silly reason not to play Grundy. You think his opponents would be less tired playing against both him and Grundy.

Either way we absolutely need Gawn's marking prowess closer to goal, and I'm willing to sacrifice some small amount of ruck dominance from him to achieve this.

Not playing Gawn 80% Ruck, has been shown not to work.   Gawn dominates when playing a high % in the ruck and does not influence when forward.

I'll have a guess.

The club don't see me as a forward option.

Maybe

"Shoulda tried harder...  shoulda gone harder" 🤷🤷

It's kind of funny how the answer is to go into the future with a 31+ y.o sole ruckman.

Not wrong, just funny.

Or any other option for that matter.

Just realised with the Hibberd news that I didn't see him at training. Potentially didn't pull up well, or is the retirement immediate?

Gawn can play 60% ruck, 20% forward, 20% bench.

I cannot remember him there either.

Not so in 2021

Sharing ruck duties helped turn the GF on its head

Was wondering that

The video on club Insta had hints of having played his last game, sadly

No it clearly says he will retire after the 2023 finals. We are still playing finals hence so is he. Unless he’s injured obviously.

Maybe Clarry is on a midfield program post hammy. He could have a new recovery plan post games to get him thru the season.
It seems like today was a PR exercise for fans much more than it was a training session.

I’m not surprised it was a bit flat:

 - They know they should’ve beaten the Pies

 - One of their main clubmen - Gussy Brayshaw - is apparently not in a very good way

- The forward line has been decimated further

- Hibbo has announced his retirement (what is that all about? Weird timing)

I reckon they’ll pull themselves back up by Wednesday: don’t underestimate the effect of Gus’s situation.

Yes it clearly said for next 3 weeks, but I felt hints of it being over now... IE potentially injured

For those saying Grundy doesn’t play, who gives Max a much needed break in the ruck, and what, heaven forbid, would we do if Gawn gets injured during the game?

I don't want to freak anyone out, but to me it looked like Schache was training with the mids along with Grundy.

He's pushing a pram.

It didn't work on Thursday.  Max played a great game.  But we lost.

I agree, which is why he needs to lift for the team and play that role even if he isn't comfortable. He's our best shot of making it work.

I was thinking the same thing and wondering why we extended his contract a while ago for another year.

I think Hibbo has a tendon problem, Achilles, like Clarry and his hip tendon, they flare after hard use. Rest them, and will be right to go in 4 to 5 days. To get completely right they need 8 to 12 weeks.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
