Time to shelf the trying to get pick 1 etc, get gold coasts 4, and throw 4&5 at a key forward. McKay from Carlton, Allen from West coast are two of target. West coast would be happy with 1,4&5 going into the draft.

And unless we change our game plan or truly believe that Petty will be the main focal point and his body won’t fail him then we need to head hunt a genuine forward.

When did Richmond go after Lynch?

2017 they won with just Riewoldt as the KF.

Did they lose in 2018 because they lacked that KPF?

I don’t know but they won the next two with him.

We need a dominant forward now while Max and May are still producing at last nights level

Yep. Our window is now. Brodie leaving frees up a fair chunk of change, go and get a half decent forward.

Gotta get a new forwards coach as well.

I disagree, it’s the biggest hole we have in our list.

Goodwin wants Thai game style, this style relies on a big forward who can mark and compete. Tmac and BBB are done, JVR not there and don’t think the right sort of player, which leaves Petty who has shown two good games as a forward and could be the answer but he keeps spending multiple weeks on the sideline which leaves us with no one.

There needs to be someone on the market. I’m not sure there is.

Head hunt them. Surely they would know who they like as players, go after them and try and pry them loose.
Carlton might let McKay go as Curnow does well as a lone forward.
Allen might not want to do the rebuild and two early picks for him might entice west coast.

We don’t have the money for either of those guys. Not even close.

We genuinely could have had Taylor Walker if we offered him a multi-year deal at the end of last year. The club clearly didn’t want to go near him because of the racial incident that happened last year. If we had him, we’d win the flag.

Agree, we need to get creative with the use of our good draft picks. We don’t fix this forward line issue up, then we butcher this window we are in. There are already a heap of teams on the up that will challenge for finals spots next season and could do damage very quickly (ie Adelaide), which worries me that we’re genuinely wasting our opportunity which may be over before we know it.

Should have been done a year ago. Tmac and bbb .. the writing was on the wall. Delist them both. Get rid of Grundy. Should give us some cash.

We have probably paid too much for Kozzie who has disappeared since he resigned. Bedford was probably a better fit than Chandler.

If last night's loss was such a season ender and concession of flag favouritism to the Pies, why don't we poach their dominant key forward?

Oh wait... They didn't have one.

Yes yes yes. He’s a lad. A good bloke. But no idea on forward structures. They all lead to the same spot.  Spread. Come up and free up space. Teach leading. Teach Fritsch to tackle.  Teach kozzzy to burn off opponents.  In Carey or Brereton or some true ex forward.

We've clearly peaked as a list (2021 to first half of 2022). We're now on the slide and it's only going to get worse as key players like May, Lever, Salem, Gawn have all declined in their impact and will continue inevitably downward. Add to that the decline of Harmes and Spargo and loss of players like Bedford and likely JJ searching for more opportunity, which has impacted our depth.

I initially thought that going after a big fish was the way to go, but on second thoughts. We really need to nail this draft to refresh our squad. Luckily we have the picks to do it so over to you Jason Taylor.

Given the club's indigenous first nations programs, there is no way they could have signed Walked.

This needed to be our priority after the 2022 exit.  Not Grundy for Jackson.

A big yes but not OA for mine.

Plus an outside classy mid with pace and finish.

But they also play a game style where they don’t dump kick it long 60 times a game.

So unless we change our game style as I’ve said multiple times we then need that key fwd.

And I’ll be betting on Goodwin sticking to his same game plan for years to come.

Having Wayne Carey wouldn’t solve our problem. It’s ball movement and forward connection that is the issue., Isolate the forward line and they kick bags.

Need better ball users plain and simple.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
