After I smothered the ball ?.?

I looked down and thought sxxt he's there = Gus's fault for somehow getting in Maynard's way by the looks.

After I DIDNT smother the ball.

Maynard said he was looking at the football the whole time.

so he was planning on giving a hip and shoulder to the turf? and then Gus flew into his path?

lucky these blokes are dead set morons. if this is what they are opening with it shouldn’t take long to get to 3-4 weeks

"You were speeding in your car"

Maynard: "I didn't know they were going to pull out, they were just suddenly there!"

In his mind he did smother the ball which bounced up and knocked Gus out.

He is claiming he touched the ball now.

Garbage.

His arms were already outstretched ffs. He literally has to move them more to bunch up

Maynard reckons he touched the ball with his hand, straight out of the Marchbank textbook (it touched Marchbank's forearm if anything, and Maynard wasn't within cooee). No chance he touched it.

Maynard says he felt the ball hitting his hand during his spoil attempt.

what???? Are we in an episode of The Twilight Zone?!!

Football act - attempted smother

dog act - head high bump on unprotected played after the ball was played

ill concede he performed the former if he accepts the latter

Well that’s very easy to disprove, so if that’s his argument the footage says, clearly, the opposite.

Tell enough lies people believe you. That or Carlton have made an offer for next year.

Interesting that Stewie Lowe and Jason Johnson have been replaced by Darren Gaspar and Scott Stevens. Wonder how come that happened at such a late stage.

Could be that the AFL is after a political decision that they know will be overturned on Appeal. Just one possible conspiracy theory.

"Hey, people, we tried."

Not enough questions have been asked IMO as to why the new CEO overruled the MRO's non-decision.

At the end of the day, it may turn out that us lawyers are the only ones to come out with integrity attached. We know the lawyers will be scrapping and spinning like hell for their side of the argument. That is what they are paid to do. What everyone else is doing, what is going on behind the scenes, we just don't know.

If he did then it was completely incidental, like the contact to Gus.

Find this statement had to believe:

Maynard: After I smothered the ball, I came and I looked down and I thought 's**t, he's there'. I sort of seized up. Next thing I know he was on the floor and I was just a bit rattled myself.

Maynard: I just sort of flinched and tensed up. I thought, 'Aww [censored] i'm going to miss him, damn.'

From the transcript number 4 is all confused.

"After I smothered the ball". Did not even get close. Later reckons he touched it.

"Didnt expect Gus to move in the way he did". Wow, he was running in a straight line at constant speed.

Did not know he would collide. Wow, how unrealistic.

Could not open his arms. Wow, he could have.

Uses the wording, football act. Gets that in quickly.

Chairman asks if he can see him. I can see the funny side if that, but assume it wasn't intentional as a response to Gus.

"Flinched up", the turn of his body and playing his shoulder into Gus is a flinch!

Finishes with, "no" to a duty of care question. Was Gus in a vulnerable position?

Too many instructions from the Council.

Won't be truthful, all about the words and not reality.

A touch is not a smother

Except you just said you didn’t realise Gussy was there til you saw him lying on the ground.

Who does he think was kicking the ball.  I feel like he is making a massive mess of this.

Stupidity right there. Putting the blame on Gus - because he got in HIS way. The footy left Gus's foot! Either he's blind as well.

This is laughable. Collingwood counsel must be having an internal 9/11. Could there be a stupider witness??!??

Maynard's evidence has concluded. He takes a sip of water. His hair is immaculately gelled.

Slippery little sucker

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
