I rate Levi Casboult, bit to old though.

Chol could be handy if he is committed.

Casboult is old but is a free agent and is durable. He potentially fills two roles on our list.

Chol would require a trade and is probably worth a pick around #30.

Risk v reward. North aren’t pulling out all the stops to keep him. I’m not sure he has grown up yet. Talented without a doubt. Very questionable temperament.

exercise extreme caution

We have an A grade culture and support system. We should be able to straighten him out, that is, if he's keen on us

Essendon talking to Tarryn Thomas.

Would love him at the Dees. Get him super fit and on the straight and narrow and could be best player in the comp.

Cannot see that happening when you think about the whole of the Melbourne Football Club. I think AFLW wouldn't be impressed.

I think we have that A grade culture largely because of the people we choose to bring into the club.

And that culture still wasn’t able to help Harley Bennell change his spots.

If we have picks 4 and 5 I'd love to get Duursma and O'Sullivan as Melksham(32) and May(31) replacements. Viney will be 30 next year so if those guys are off the board then I'm happy to go after McKercher or Caddy.

In terms of trade targets we need a ready made ruck if Grundy leaves. Goldstein wants to go around for another year and I'm happy to take him for a year while waiting for KFW and Verrall to improve. Our key forwards in Brown and Macca are on their last legs so hopefully we can get Georgiades in a Grundy trade if it were to eventuate. I think Jordon will stay with us, he's been given a fair amount of opportunity this year but we'll need to get another ready made mid to cover for Dunstan like a Matt Crouch or Billings etc.

georgiades signed a new deal with the pear so that's not happening

mouch i can see replacing dunstan, but no doubt he will prefer to go somewhere where he's likely to see afl action, while billings is a completely different sort of player and wouldn't replace a dunstan-type on a list

goldstein will want to be an afl-ready ruckman for a side next year, not behind gawn in the queue for afl opportunities

Surely if Grundy is to go out, Lycett comes straight onto our radar.

I’d rather take a chance on one of the many back ups around the league coming in to their prime than Lycett who hasn’t been able to get through a game all year. If we are after a veteran Goldy makes more sense than Lycett.

Otherwise I’d be looking at Jordon Sweet, Matt Flynn, Sam Hayes, Tom Fullarton or even Ivan Soldo.

Dodo will ask for two 1st rounders anyways.

Perkins? How will he improve us?

Classy forward mid with some medium size is something we could really do with. Tracc’s our only forward/mid, there’s no great option to change him with.

Can’t really see us paying a fortune to get him when he’s contracted though.

I thought there was bad blood between Lycett and Gawn?

Probably. Just seemed to be a cheap & competent backup option.

But as others have pointed out, probably not the option we’ll go for.

B: McVee, May, Lever

HB: Salem, D.Turner, Rivers

C: Langdon, Oliver, Hunter

HF: Petracca, van Rooyen, Neal-Bullen

F: Fritsch, Petty, Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Brayshaw, Viney

IC: Bowey, Sparrow, J.Smith, Chandler

SUB: Laurie

Casey

B: D.Smith, Adams, Draft pick

HB: Howes, Draft pick, Draft pick

C: Woewodin, Laurie, Draft pick

HF: Moniz-Wakefield, McDonald, Sestan

F: Jefferson, Schache, Spargo

FOLL: Verrall, Draft pick, Draft pick

IC: Farris-White, Melksham, Draft pick, Draft pick

I wonder if we can rookie Melksham hopefully he'll have a Tomlinson like recovery and play half way through the year.

Harmes will be looking for a new club as will Grundy, Hiberd will retire. Tomlinson will be looking for a new club as will Jordon. Dunstan will be delisted as will K.Turner and Brown will retire.

Will probably lose a few midfielders so I think we should draft for midfielders and trade for talls, Lycett, Chol and Georgiades come to mind.

Perkins is a soft footballer. Pass.

In fact, pass on any peptide player (except maybe 2m Peter)

Bull dust He's a very good footballer he'll stay.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
