a replacement for dunstan/harmes/jordon ie dev rob, beast mode mathieson, parfitt, Ehollands

a key forward to play week in week out who is younger ie georgiades, fullarton, riccardi, lewis, allen, lord

a ruckman ie lycett, ladhams, mirkov, bryan, flynn, soldo,

better tall depth james stewart, ehimmelberg, hamling, burgess, caleb graham, clurey, dougie howard, TOB

everyone will be up in arms that theres some NQR players in there but we need mature depth to compete week in week out and if we lose another 3-4 mature players this year on top of the ones we lost last year we start to become thin outside the best 22.

draft it's best available particularly inside and outside mids and good users

KB and orlando turner as rookies

Trying to lure Xavier over too?

Contracted until the end of next year but we've definitely spoken to his management.

The Archer moves like a gazelle. He will be a top liner if he can get his body right for a full season.

He and his brother would be unbelievable assets.

I'd be focusing my attention there and not on Harley.

I would be looking at Levi Casboult or Mabior Chol at the Suns. Both could fill the role as a second ruck if Max gets injured for a short period but can also potentially play a role as second ruck alongside Max. I know Casboult would be a stop gap solution but it could be the difference between winning or losing the 2024 flag.

Tom Lynch for two years please.

Otherwise, Naughton please.

Thanks very much.

Is that all we have to do for it to come true?

Pick 4 from The Suns

Harley Reid or best available at 4 and 5 (What an unbelievable opportunity to safeguard our list)

An uncontracted back up ruck

A key forward or back depending on where Petty's future lies.

Essendon talking to Tarryn Thomas.

Would love him at the Dees. Get him super fit and on the straight and narrow and could be best player in the comp.

Risk v reward. North aren’t pulling out all the stops to keep him. I’m not sure he has grown up yet. Talented without a doubt. Very questionable temperament.

Extremely talented and has a huge ceiling but the kid is a bit of a goose with his behaviour off field - especially that towards a few ladies.  I definitely don't think he's worth the risk - especially as some serious capital would have to be invested to make the trade.

I'm thinking the following will leave/retire:  Dunstan, Melksham, Hibberd, Harmes, Tomlinson and Jordan.  That's literally all our mature depth gone.

Personally I think we take P5 to the draft and throw most our other picks and F1 at Gold Coast for there P4.

I'm a big fan of Harley but would rather any 2 of Curtain, Duursma, McKercher or Watson.  We know that its the high end talent that wins flags.

Looking at a rough best 22 and age profile as at Rd 1 next year and its clear we need a backup key defender and ruckman.  Most other spots look to be covered with our developing squad.

If we get a second rounder for Grundy trade, I'd be having a crack at a role player needed like Chol from Gold Coast.  It's a position I think we need (ruck/forward) plus he's another big body there.  I'd be surprised of TMac/BBB get back to there best and make that spot their own but I doubt they'd retire when there is the chance of more success in a strong team.

Trade whatever we get for Harmes/JJ compensation for the best mature key defender available.  Doesn't have to be a world beater.  Scache to stay as ruck depth as well with Verrell.

FB:   Bowey (21)      May (32)      McVee (20)
HB:   Rivers (22)     Lever (28)     Salem (28)
C:     Hunter (29)     Viney (29)    Langdon (28)
HF:  Petracca (28)    Petty (24)      Fritsch (27)
FF:   Picket (22)     JVR (20)         **Chol (27)
R:   Gawn (32)       Oliver (26)    Brayshaw (28

Depth/bench:

Adams - 19
Turner - 21
Jefferson - 20
Howes - 20
Woey - 21
ANB - 28
Laurie - 22
Spargo - 24
Sparrow - 23
Smith - 28
Brown - 31
TMac - 31

Chol on the trade table, wonder if we'd be keen

Well if we want 4 and a back up ruck/forward, assuming Grundy leaves, it may be a discussion to be had.

27 at start of next season, so experienced and would not expect to be best 23.

Posted (edited)

i don't think chol would be in our starting 23

he's good enough to maintain a spot on our list and play on occasion, but he's as reliable as a weideman or a schache when it comes to that ruck / forward role

Exactly what I said, except that he is bigger than both Weid and Scache and has more experience in the ruck than they do.

Not saying we would want him, but he may be discussed if we are looking at pick 4.

Love that team. But I'd like an extra small in the forward half please. And probably a tall up the other end in Turner.

We could luck out or get screwed over here.

If North get over compensated with pick 3 for McKay (hopefully not happening)

And

We can't get our hands on Gold Coasts pick 4

Our pick 5 turns into pick 7 (post Walter bid) and we will most likely miss out on all of Curtin, Duursma, McKercher, Watson and obviously Reid.

I think this is unlikely but is a possibility. I have faith our team will make the most of our hand and get at least one of the aforementioned players.

I rate Levi Casboult, bit to old though.

Chol could be handy if he is committed.

Trade with Suns to get ND pick #4 and with picks #4 & #5 take 2 from

1st choices - Curtin & Duursma

2nd choices - Mckercher & Watson

Reckon that covers some of our areas which need some attention over the next few years.

Trade in some depth of senior players and take Kynan Brown

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
