Good, ran his race, set in his ways and couldn’t ring changes.

Happy for him and happy for us.

I think I'd love Stafford to either be shuffled around so we get a new forwards coach as well as an Yze replacement.

Lord knows we need it. Get some fresh ideas, faces and energy.

Hope he has better luck teaching Toranto how to kick than he had at Melbourne with Trac, Viney and Oliver.

one of the coaches this weekend fits that category

Technically, yes

Good luck to Adem.

Wonder when he starts there? He'd have inside IP on our trade and draft strategies unless we excluded him from the process because he was a candidate for this job, I'm not completely comfortable with that unless he trades Tom Lynch to us for a future 4th.

That'd be a decent catch I'm sure we'd be angling for, but there may be a roe of potential suitors lining up just for the halibut.

Roe?  Something fishy about this?

It was interesting to hear him say (paraphrasing) “at my last two clubs, I was in the drivers seat during game day”.  That’s really concerning that Goodwin is on the bench and another coach is running the game, while he has pep talks with the players.  As much as I hate the bloke, there is no way Chris Scott would do that, you can see him and the other coaches changing their style throughout the game from the box.

Yze runs the box. He did that at Hawthorn too and nobody complained about Clarkson.
We won a flag with Goodwin coaching from the bench.

I understand we have just disappointingly lost two finals, but not everything the club does needs to be thrown in the bin.

The head coach position has evolved into this and Goodwin was one of the trendsetters. There's a lot of demand on head coaches so I think it's smart to have a solid right hand when it comes to strategy so Goody can be more of an overseer and also focus on the relationship side of things.

I think this role is going to be one that we need to nail and it can't be anybody. Whoever we get needs to be his eyes on gameday and a very quick thinker.

Congratulations to Ooze, loved him as a player, as a coach for us.

2021= flag

2022= straight sets

2023= straight sets

Yze and Richo have been in the box and Goody on the boundary, we will now have to bring in a different person to fill this all important role or Chaplin/Richo moves into that role.

I totally agree but that’s a massive gamble to have a newbie in the seat with Goody on the bench.

I might be over thinking it….

Don’t worry BD I think that this last week has us all overthinking given our current situation, we all new that Ooze deserved a crack at a senior coaching role but we’re hoping against hope that he would be staying on. Now we are forced to make major changes with the inherent risk that a bad decision could impact or side and our club. Scary scenario.!!!

Just heard on the radio his wife asked him to bring home pizzas and he said he couldn't because he was wearing a Richmond polo. Surely he could have put a jumper on

I think Chris Fagan also coaches like that

Totally agree.  The role is more than just an assistant coach.  It's more like a second senior coach

I hope they still invite him to the BNF for a farewell.

Last year the sound of oooooze going round the building was massive. Bigger sound for Oooze than for Goody. Just saying.

Macrae from the bench, Fagan from the box ...

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

    Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

    On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

    Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
