We'll know by end of 3rd qtr if Port are serious or not.

Why would they bother tossing away the cue?

Melbourne control destiny ofย  4th.

Nothing Port can do. Its out of their hands.

Perversely I'll be pleased to see Jesse get a cracking at finals.ย

Real incentive for Carlton to beat GWS so they get the Bulldogs in Week 1. Reckon Carlton will rip the Doggies apart.

Really don't need Carlton getting a soft game leading into the following final.

Yeh I think you're right. Winning form is more important going into finals and I refuse to believe they would be considering anything other than a win.

I am hoping the following final would be against C'Wood after they lose to the Dees in Week 1 ... (1st v 4th).

Might be unpopular but I'd actually rather Port lose and we win. It's either Brisbane at the Gabba in a QF, and then a pathway back to what will likely be 2-3 games at the MCG. Or, potentially a Gabba Prelim. Which is way harder. Granted I am more confident of a Pies QF win than a Brisbane Gabba QF win, but Brisbane won't lose a Prelim at the Gabba.

EDIT: Also, you'd rather face the prospect of Brisbane at the Gabba with a second chance, then Brisbane at the GABBA in an elimination game.

Just channeling the typical DL supporters, who at this stage would be saying that if Port canโ€™t beat the Tigers with authority they are no chance in the finals.

*as an aside, I think Port will lose, and we will lose more betterer.ย

Would much rather play the Lions in a QF than a Prelim - but if we finish 4th and beat the Pies in a Prelim weโ€™d have a dream Prelim scenario against one of Port, Swans or Saints (presuming Port lose to Lions at the Gabba)

Although lose against the Pies and itโ€™s Carlton or GWS/Doggies at the G and Lions at the Gabba

A week one win huge in that scenarioย

If we win the QF we are straight into a Home Preliminaryย

Yes I know that. I'm saying that, I'd rather face Brisbane in a QF, than the prospect of *losing* against Collingwood and then being on a pathway to going to the Gabba in a PF. The pathway to the is GF is easier if you win the QF, obviously. But I'm thinking of the pathway if we lose the QF. And that pathway is easier if we play Brisbane week 1.

Iโ€™m not saying Port are trying to lose, but they are definitely not trying to win. Hinkley couldnโ€™t have cared less that goal was not called after the siren.

Which doesn't make sense because Melbourne will already know what to do if we really want to finish 4th.

Correct. Maybe they are on the slide. Choking? As someone here suggests

I havenโ€™t contemplated losing yet. We should already be in 2nd place

We have already been cheatedย

Agree. There is no sane reason that Richmond with half their team on holiday are within one kick at 3 quarter time.ย

Port are a club that are happy to put concussed players back on the ground so dropping this game is nothing. Itโ€™s a case of are we willing to sink that low.

This feels like a Wizard Cup gameย

๐Ÿค”so play the hardest QF so you donโ€™t have to play them again if you lose in the Semi or play the easiest QF and win and donโ€™t have to play the at home at all?

Port with only 96 contested touches it all.

well below their average

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
