It’s a cop out. The AFL force them to make a call so that the ARC can revert to umpires call because it’s a useless system. One day it’s going to ruin a final - and boy do I hope it’s one of the big clubs that get robbed - that will force the AFLs hand to do something about it.

It was the 2 cheap goals they got at the start of the last that lost us that game. We pushed very very hard and we would usually win those games. Tonight we didn't but we're going alright.

I think we played the percentages a fraction too often with our ball movement.

A couple of times when we should have gone long on the switch or fast on the slingshot, we played safe. The coaches might be ultimately okay with that, because their response would be, if Trac's goal is given, we win. But this is the difference between us and Collingwood and Port. They take that every time. Particularly, Collingwood. 

I guess over the next month and a half, we'll see which approach stacks up better. And ultimately, we might stick with our approach anyway as we fit our system to our personnel. If we had two F/Ss that could hit kicks from everywhere that were essentially the best players in their draft years, we might be better able to make that shift. Instead we have inside bulls and contested beasts.

Again, we'll see who wins out soon.

Carlton's all over pressure for them, was immense.  Voss has obviously taken a different tack with his coaching approach

But AF, we can't call them the real deal? Because to do what they did tonight week to week is taxing on the body and takes a really strong mindset

Total football circa the Tigers 2017-2020 is the benchmark for pressure

If they were entrenched in the top 4, we could be more concerned but can they keep it up?

For us, we can play a high pressure game on a reasonably consistent basis but tonight, we couldn't deal with their pressure

Yep umpiring remains a blight on the game. The introduction of a 4th umpire has only added to the inconsistency and the adjudication of a supposed ‘elite’ level of sport remains a farce. Prime example also last night with Jeremy Cameron clearly being OOB when marking and when also receiving a handball.

At one stage Cripps was caught by 3 diff tacklers consecutively.  He might have successfully shrugged the first.

However, after then trying to shrug the  next two, the 2nd & 3rd stuck and he  dropped the ball, literally flopping it one hand and just releasing it as one arm was pinned.  No free play on.

He was caught red hot and 100% incorrect disposal but they just wouldn't ping him tonight.

This sort of rubbish must make a player feel like he is untouchable.  Had a VG game but too often gets a lovely helping hand to enhance things.

I hate the AFL. 

Disappointing result. More becuase it was Carlton. We were poor for large portions of the game which is a common trend unfortunately. However the last 20 minutes was fantastic from a physicality/contest point of view, just can't execute going forward. It will cost us in September unless McDonald has a massive impact.

Viney is an absolute beast. Amazing.

The Grundy selection was costly. Bowie had a poor game and lost some crucial contests. 

The umpiring continues to be abysmal.

Demur, we couldn't execute goal kicking, slightly different, I thought our pressure and composure during some dodgy tactics and non calls was very high. 

Blues were due for some luck and boy did they get it. 
All I know is teams will never feel safe against Melbourne and it was proven again tonight.

It's 2 weeks in a row we've come out with a flat start. 

That final quarter after they kicked the first 3 we kept them scoreless after that. We had so many chances tonight. 

But we got 0 goals from Van Rooyen who would normally kick those and nothing out of Melksham and Grundy. 

i thought it was a fantastic game and i hated every minute of it

We obviously view the game differently.  To me there are never any excuses

6.5 out of 10 instead of 8.5 out of 10 was how I see our performance tonight

What a cracking game! The Tackles count was Carl 87 vs Melb 88. I have to say Carlton is a very, very good team now. In my view, they're better than Collinwood, Brisbane and Port Adelaide. I don't know about this year yet but they will be a strong force next year. They're well trained and very hungry. Tonight, they handled the slippery ball better than us, in the final 10 minutes, their composure was better than us. The Errors count was Carl 59 vs Melb 74, Efficiency was Carl 72 vs Melb 66. They got easy goals, like the two from centre bounce in the earlier 4th quarter, we didn't. In Rd 13 vs Collinwood, we kicked 8 goals totally, Fritsch kicked 3 of them. We kicked 8 goals tonight, what the beautiful shots were from ANB, Smith and Kozzie. I don't feel bad actually, looking forward to meet them again in final series.

Dees, you're good, you're capable to do better next time around, I believe in you.

I don't think it was just their pressure though.

We were off for large portions of the game, and certainly the first half. The best example was allowing their half backs and mids handball receives exiting our A50 and even through the corridor. It gave them repeated territory.

Either our pressure was off or we were too positionally defensive defending those short uncontested marks. And as we saw, Carlton smashed us for uncontested possessions. The top possession getters for the first half were pretty much all Carlton half backs, who were allowed to do what they wanted and set up play.

Did our players or coaches not give those guys enough respect in the first half? 

We certainly ensured they got less of these handball receive releases in the second half, and it meant they were having to kick to more contests, what we wanted them to do. Unfortunately, we didn't intercept mark and we didn't win the ground ball efficiently enough.

It also meant we lost Kozzy up the ground a bit where he was super dangerous early, because he became the guy tracking all the handball receive runners inside our A50.

Grundy delivered what I expected of him, which was nothing. Can the Demonland Grundy sychophants finally concede that he's a liability unless he plays as the number 1 ruck? But we're stuck with him for another 4 years if the sycophnats have their way.
