Not sure you remember ours last year.

Finished 2 after H&A - totally banged up and out in straight sets. Still a way better follow up season than Cats or Dogs.

Welp, not worried about the Pies, and the Cats can't make finals.

Football is the winner here.

If they beat StKilda and Bulldogs i think they can still make it........

The bulldogs are the 4th best side in the comp right now (Dees, Blues, Lions, Dogs). No way Geelong will beat them.

When the whips were cracking at the pointy end we wilted, badly.

Even if they make it, it will be an away EF against Carlton most likely. They will just make the numbers.

Are the cats cactus yet?

Without Hawkins and Selwood, it falls on Danger and Jezza. That is about as good a game as you could ask from both of them and they couldn’t get it done… once danger falls off or retires, they’re over

@binman what are your thoughts about the cats and pies?

Cats generation over? Hope for 5 or 6 years of mediocrity

Collingwood not good enough to win the flag?

Cats shot.

'Superp performance from collingwood' Brayshaw said.

He can't be serious.

Yes good enough to win a flag, but not on that performance.

All of their vulnerabilities were on show again, particularly their defensive issues.

And they have not got a premiership midfield

Cats were a defensive horror show and slow as a wet week.

And the reality is the pies allowed dads army to put 100 points past them and got smashed in terms of inside 50s in the last quarter.

All the pies last quarter goals were a result of absolute howler clangers from the cats.

Let's see how they go next week against the lions.

They will struggle big time to cover the lions talls with no Moore.

And stunk it up.

I'm sorry I expect this from opposition supporters but from our own supporters... We finished second and dominated the first half of the season winning the first 10 games in a row. Yes we limped at the end of the year but doesn't take away from the fact we played well through the h&a and we should be proud of the effort of the boys.

Geelong have only won 10 games so far and it's round 22. Not sure they are that comparable...

Didn't bother watching after 3/4 time.

Geelong leaked to many goals that quarter.

Ugh the thing is the pies play all their games ta the G. It's going to be unbearable & that's just having to listen to their fans.

Its at Geelong i think, so they are in with a shot.

But yeah lets hope not.

The media’s sick obsession with Collingwood is hilarious.
Can’t wait for David King to declare them his #1 best ever side again this week 🙄😂

The pie are strutting off… [censored]-a-hoop!

Firmly in the “if it’s not Melbourne, then anyone but Collingwood.” Camp.

the 2018 GF almost wiped the pain of the prior eeek/week.

Next week against Lions will be telling of Pies finals chances. Too much going on in tonight’s game to get a true read.

Why they cannot lose top spot they might even rest some players.

If Geelong go 2-0 from here they get to 12.5.

That means the likes of GWS, St Kilda and the Dogs need to win 2 more games to stay in front of them. Carlton might only need 1 win if they can somehow get their percentage in front.

So for St Kilda, factoring in a loss to Geelong, they have to beat Brisbane in Brisbane along with Richmond. Unlikely. That would see Geelong pass St Kilda, which right now is enough to make finals unless a side below them passes them.

For sides below them, they all would have to go 3-0 to pass Geelong on 12.5. That requires Sydney to, for example, beat Adelaide in Adelaide and us. Or requires Adelaide to beat Brisbane in Brisbane and Sydney at home. Or requires Essendon to beat North, GWS (away) and Collingwood.

So, in short, unless you think Geelong is going to lose to St Kilda or the Dogs at home, they're still odds on to make finals. Sadly.

Nothing would bring me greater joy than for the dees to smash the pies in the grand final and for the crowd to ironically chant Collingwood in the last 5minutes as their fans exit.

[censored] me to tears when some want to bag the MFC for past performances on a Non-Mfc thread.

Well I certainly hope this week the media give the pies the fawning attention they rightly deserve as the greatest team ever

Pies don’t have the game style or plan to play high pressure defensive finals footy. Doesn’t mean they can’t do it or won’t do it, but they haven’t practiced it enough IMO to make it stick in finals.

Their midfield is very average and their defense is only ok. It’s weak under pressure and they press so high up that any turnover costs them dearly. High risk high reward type stuff.

One player alone beat them in the midfield in that last quarter. And he’s 33.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
