I canโ€™t remember my 20s.

Let me tell you, it was a whole lot more fun being 20 in the 70s than 70 in the 20s...!!

Nah he can still show us what he's got. I like what I said.

I know Tomlinson wasn't great last week but are we really that desperate that after all the effort to turn Smith into a forward we're now flipping it around yet again and making him a defender?

No Spargo is the right call IMO. The small forward to midfielder balance is right.

Hibberd for sub? We've tried Spargo as sub and it didn't work, and I sure as [censored] hope we don't try it again. Goodwin ruled Grundy out already so it would be odd to see him get picked. I suppose Tomlinson's versatile and could feasibly play multiple spots (or replace Smith and free Smith to move up the ground), but I doubt we go that way.ย

I can only imagine the players are in fantastic nick, relatively speaking for August.

You wouldn't imagine Goodwin and company would be that stupid to allow history to repeat.ย

McVee yes but Bowey and Rivers are premiership players, Rivers confidence has gone to a new level this year. He (Smith) will also have May, Lever and Salem around him. End of the day we know what we get with Tomlinson, canโ€™t hurt to try Smith over the next month.

McVee was pantsed by Martin last week Maybe needs a rest

Ventured up to the Gold Coast this weekend rather than head south... Based in Palm Beach/Currumbin. Any locals recommend a favourite place to watch the game?

Beaten early, played better in the 2nd half. Needs a rest suggests he may be tired and need a freshen up before finals, similar to Viney and Gawn. Heโ€™s a kid who would have learnt a lot from one of the best. When Hibberd last played was shown up by Rohan.ย

Mcvee has been given some of the comps incredible talents to play against. He's bound to beaten now and then. Given his age and experience, he's done a great job. I'm sure he will rightly continue with the clubs confidence and faith. I'd like to see Hibbo play but there's really no room for him . I think Smith will be sub again.ย

I think I just read Smith is getting a full game.

Expecting a 19 year old kid built like a rake to lock down on an in form Dusty when he went forward was delusional!ย

As @SFebesย has said, Clarrieโ€™s due back vs the Blues. Tonight Iโ€™ll be at Casa De Frittata and should Fritta Jnr pop by Iโ€™ll ask him to confirm. I might well be imagining it, but I thoughtย Judd played on dusty the first time we played the tigers, and did ok.

Wasnโ€™t it in the pre season practice match/simulation? Dusty got a goal after not being penalized for a blatant push in the back.

Mcvee is in good companyย

dusty has pantsed plentyย

mcvee provides invaluable pace and quality delivery off half back

I thought Dusty did his best work last weekend in the midfield. He got on the end of some good delivery up forward but there was not really anything the defenders could stop.ย

McVeeโ€™s biggest error was letting Coulthard kick a crumbing goal when he was too loose.ย

Credit to the tigers midfield. The ball was coming into our backline at breakneck speed and made it super hard to defend.

Excellent changes this week. Smith needs a chance to show he can be a big asset for us. And Sparrow is definitely in our best side.ย

Poor old Tomlinson is a solid and reliable player but we are blessed with so many high quality defenders. Smith is much faster and able to get up higher to intercept mark or spoil. I think Tomlinson is really seen as Mayโ€™s back up.ย

In Hibberdโ€™s defence he had a busted kidney from the first quarter

McVee is one player that is reliable in terms of decision making and execution when he has possessionย

We have a couple of others in our back six that are capable of some costly turnovers. We also have a couple that arenโ€™t at their best when the ball hits the ground - In this area McVee is a standoutย

Our back six is much better with Judd in it imo - maybe he is feeling the pinch but if not he stays inย

Giving gawn a week off means his 200th will be against the swans at the scg (not hawks at the mcg)...

Having said that it is the smart play.

Hibberd will be close to dislodging mcvee, oliver and sparrow return for harmes and jordon.ย

Do you mess with form?

ย

I wonder if these games are some sort of litmus test for the future of an AFL team in Tasmania?

It will be interesting to see what sort of crowd they get for the game. These are the numbers for the last five North Melbourne matches:-

Last yearย

26/06/22 vs Adelaide 5,072
23/07/22 vs Hawthorn 9,713 *
27/08/22 vs Gold Coast Suns 2,459

This year

13/05/23 vs Port Adelaide 6,310
11/06/23 vs GWS Giants 5,025

Back in 2015 and 2016, they attracted two crowds in excess of 17,000 vs Richmond both times. The record for the ground was 18,149 in a BBL match Hurricanes vs Strikers and they had some good ODI crowds around a decade ago but the numbers have tapered off recently.

With local opposition to the proposed AFL Hobart Stadium growing, the Tassie Devils might still struggle to get off the ground.ย

Still interested to see how many people the Dees can attract tomorrow.

* clash between 2 clubs that play home games in Tassie.

He did indeed.

Shows his character, courage, passion and toughness.

It might come down to match ups, but it's hard not to think goody will go with hibbo in the finals precisely because of those attributes.

I get the very strong sense they are managing hibbo to ensure he is in great nick and is at his explosive best week one of the finals.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
