We'd effectively be paying around $500k for pick 8... certainly worth considering

Have not watched GWS in a while. How is Haynes playing these days.

Pity he's not a forward

No to Haynes, yes to Taylor.

i was in perth for work yesterday and let me tell you, its a top top city, such nice weather and the perfect balance of cbd and grassland and not too busy, could definitely live there. and draftees shouldn't knock it until theu try it. also has a lot of nice bars

Except it feels hollow and like a movie set and there’s never any clouds which is concerning

Unfortunately Taylor ain't going nowhere

Would we take Haynes in a salary dump? Turn his $1mill+ final year into 2 x $650k and get their top 10 pick???

Think the afl have tweaked the rules so you can't smooth out contracts in these sort of deals. We would have to take a full $1mill hit.

So is Harley Reid a potential difference-maker like Gawn, Petracca or Oliver?

If so, take the punt and secure the player.  We might have to pay overs with regards to draft picks but that's the price you have to pay

We're a team in contention so to make that an ongoing feature, adding a star enhances our attributes

Why fall out of the window?

He is,  have a limit we are willing to pay and if WC want more, walk away and get the next best kid.

there are some good kids after him, but GC also have some of them wrapped up through academy.

Latest article on it says AFL are talking about salary dump meaning you can only smooth out 20% of the salary.

I like the trade as Haynes would be an upgrade on 3rd tall defender with Petty forward and give our younger developing defenders time to develop while we compete for premierships

No to Haynes.

You are not buying Haynes you are buying the pick or picks that come with him.

What if you got their first pick and Riccardi, for taking him and his salary for a year?

You would clear off an extra player or two and bring in draftees on small payments which cover that one year.

Sorry Redleg, I haven't had a chance to read the thread or convo just yet mate, just saw Haynes' name mentioned so said no, at his age.

I understand that, as for a straight get Haynes deal, I would agree, it’s the steak knives that could be very sharp, that could make it attractive.

Interesting. A 20% discount brings Haynes salary down to $960k. Grundy is on $650k.  One other senior / experienced player leaving would free up the remaining salary cap needed.

Harmes. Get rid of him.

So @Mach5 what I think you meant to say is that premiership player, and lifelong Demons supporter, James Harmes is currently on the fringes of our best 22. Therefore, a move to another club where he would get more game time could be in his best interests. This, in turn, would give our Football department more flexibility in negotiating a deal such as muted by @BigMacjnr and @Romey.

Couldn’t care less who he supported growing up. He’s a passenger & we need to move him on.

That's ok, means we have 5 and our 1st. Trade up and it might be 2 x top 10 picks. Would've been nice to get Reid, but the alternative is also very good

Make things very interesting with what the AFL will now do with regards to a hand out to North. Can’t see them giving pick two for McKay as way overs and that would totally screw over WC as North would get Reid and Curtain.
North not getting an extra pick at point end of first helps us.
Also North now going to get Reid is there any point in them getting access to Sanders as they are already stacked with young talent in the middle.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
