The clubs reason for Brodie Grundy going back to the VFL simply does not smell right. So if he is to play in the VFL he is out for at least two weeks.

Smells perfectly right.

He's going back to play as a forward.

To develop his forward craft.

Wouldn't expect to see him doing any or hardly any ruck time at Casey.

I really like the selected team, and I’m really confident that we w’ll beat Brisbane.  We are working nicely towards September!

Hope they find someone knowledgeable to teach that craft..

Reckon Grundy know more about rucking than Stafford knows about being a forward.

It smells a bit worse than what you are saying.

They are telling a 29 year old ruck we just recruited, who has famously been a poor forward player, to learn forward craft in the VFL…

At 29 years old and not a known forward or great overhead mark, I think the club have miscalculated this move. Sending him back to VFL for try to work on his "forward" craft is too little too late IMO.

Who cares why he’s omitted. He’s a quality human and footballer. I’ve no doubt he’ll be back better for it. Looking at Grundy and Gawn I’d say Gawn has another year and Grundy has 4-5 more. He’ll be number 1 ruck next year and beyond.

2022..  Dees coup - land AA Ruck for bargain bucks..

Nek minit... 2023 ...

MFC...we roll......different

Not to mention a costly one at that..

This FD needs an honest review of itself at the end of the year if the above means what I think it means.

I, and others, said before we picked him up that it’s a lot to invest in the ruck position.

But now it’s done we have to lean into it, and they sound like we are readdressing the concept…

Max needs to realise he is a fwd first, and the sooner he does, the better he will be and the team.

We are not losing because of the ruck situation.

Bumping because it was what I thought it was.

They brought in a ruck knowing one of them had to be more forward than the other - the bloke who was earmarked to do it saw his form diminish as he struggled to embrace that new role - now the ruck who Champion Data had in the AA team a few weeks back is ‘learning to play forward’ in the VFL.

A perfectly laughable situation that was wholly foreseeable tbh.

When was the last time the lions actually won at the G?

Was it against us?

Yep Grundy is out but it will definitely be interesting to see Jvr and Bbb in the same line up.

I guess Goody is never going back to the Petty fwd option. I do wonder why the long experiment in the first place.

Now I know it should be positive thoughts and all, but having Nicholls, Williamson and Findlay all umpiring ****cough conspiring cough**** against us makes it all the harder to win tomorrow night.

Its a who’s who of umpires you don’t want officiating in your match, and we hit the jackpot.

First game with BBB and JVR together? Interested to see how they work together.

Christ that’s the trifecta of Melbourne haters

I’ve said for sometime the ruck “dream team “ isn’t working

it’s not just Grundy either

I think they are both getting on a bit and Grundy is a weak field mark and offers SWA in front of goal

i like the dropping of Grundy but would prefer Smith not as sub as he can offer Max a chop out and has merits as a fwd

Wrong ruck

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a greater line up of incompetence

Nichols should have retired years ago

Nicholls... Still sulking over Max punching the ball.

What a stuff up, reckless.

God I hope Brodie comes back in and plays an absolutely blinding finals series.

I’d like nothing more for him to show what a good player he is. Far too many being smug about a guy whose best makes him a top 20 in the comp player.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice?
