Seems right to me from Melbourne’s perspective

May and Lever could get there in the second half if they get back to their best

Love Trac, but Moore is captain of the team on top of the ladder. He’s definitely the logical and worthy captain for the AA team at this stage.

Pretty reasonable side. Only player inclusion I question is  Neales inclusion. That as well as the traditional lack of respect that wing is a specialist role and not just the place you extend the centre square mids you want to include to avoid tough decisions.

Trac and Clarry will be locks for the next few years. It's disappointing that nobody else has really put their hand up so far - Gawn, Salem, May, Lever, Fritsch, Pickett and Langdon were all in the conversation this time two years ago. That could potentially be a good thing in the back half of the year. Lots of very good players who can lift.

and half back, Jordan Dawson is a 247 inside mid imo. Not a HB flanker.

The only reason Moore is in this side at all is because Petty went to the Forward line and Moore's old man demanded it.

A good tough mobile CHF would murder him. We have two at the moment coming up.

I’d love to see a stats based AA side that removes all ambiguity and bias.

1. most goals  + contested marks inside 50 = FF

2. most effective hit outs + clearances  + contested marks  + score involvements = Ruck

3. # Disposals + contested possessions + clearances + pressure acts = Rover

etc.

This can all be weighted based on opponents  played and other factors that give a more rounded assessment as opposed to Pies getting 5 players because they are on top.

I think it’ll throw up some interesting results and we are likely to recognise a broader range of players and just favourites if the media (which make up most of the AA selection panel)

Lloyd and Robbo leaving Oliver out  is surprising given the form of Clarry and the fact that he is equal 6th to win the Brownlow. He is having another fine season. We will see how the final and official AA team ends up.

I’d say Toby Greene as caption, judging by last years criteria - which was clearly to pick a captain that annoyed as many people as possible.

Also ticks the required box to have ‘beaten someone up with a crutch at Zagames’ before

I'd be leaving Serong out if anyone was the be left out. Has been getting a lot of it all season but it's only the last month he's really been doing anything with it and hurting opposition. He can be a bit of a crab handballing and kicking sideways often.

All that would be is Champion data picked AA teams, how lifeless.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
