In fact in the same post that you quoted I said that we deserve to be a successful club!

Your history lesson is a good one. What it shows is that those teams improved dramatically in order to then go on to win the flag. They didn’t just repeat their mediocre form all season and then somehow had a flag fall in their lap. 
 

But apparently to suggest that we need to improve in key areas in order to win is being negative and hysterical, not pragmatic or realistic. 
 

I love this club, but I’m not blind to its faults. We are seeing our own history from last season repeat itself. We seem to have not improved in the areas that hurt us last season either.
To bury your head in the sand and say oh we only lost our last two games by 11 points, is to paper over the cracks in a very convenient way to the narrative that we all so desperately want to believe, which is that things will get better and we will win the flag in 2023. 
I hope more than anything that you’re right, but without change I can’t see it happening. 

Whatever happened to the date and run the team showed in the two pre-season games?

I had very high hopes that are now dead.

I will still be there supporting the team but it's getting very frustrating and hard to sit in front of the TV or attending the games.

If you don’t want knee jerk, don’t log on here after a loss. Plain and simple. It’s an emotional game. Besides which there’s some truth behind all the fists being smashed on the table. The same applies in reverse after a win.

Two things:

1. The Darcy injury will hurt for a few weeks but Freo should play finals this year. Whether or not that makes them a ‘good team’ depends on your definition but I don’t see them regressing back to early season form. The narrative that we lost to a bog ordinary side simply isn’t true.

2. We have the talent on the park to be a contender THIS year. Obviously talent alone doesn’t get you there but it’s a major factor. The season is not shot. Far from it.

I understand both points of view and also realise that little more than a straight kick in both of the last two games and the atmosphere around here would be markedly different.

We desperately want to achieve the success of Richmond, Geelong, and Hawthorn and not fade away like St Kilda and the Bulldogs. Gawn is 31 and has just had the worst run of form in probably five years and other key players have shown concerning signs this season. Our once in a generation midfield, is inexplicably being beaten and we are once again resorting to the same McDonald/Brown/Smith dilemma.

Goodwin is clearly a coach who prefers to prepare a team for long term success - and it seems to me he feels any deviation from the plan is a sign of weakness and panic. It's as though he believes that in time the poor form will self correct.

As others have noted, it's a strength and weakness and I'm a little in both camps. I like that Goodwin keeps losses in proportion and has faith in the team and the system that delivered our first premiership in 57 years. But I also feel frustrated and sense that the team is stagnating, becoming complacent, and even bored. I know others bemoan the loss of Petty from the backline, but in some ways it's the most exciting structural change Goodwin has made in a long time and I hope we persist with it for a while longer.

In short, I understand the frustration and I hope Goodwin does to learn to become more dynamic as a coach and also as a list manager. Keep in mind, however, it's round 11 and we're 4th with a great percentage. St Kilda and Bulldog supporters would also be livid that they spoilt the chance to climb into the top 4 after unexpected losses of their own. Geelong, the reigning premiers, also dropped one unexpectedly and are a game out of it.

I think it’s because our problems have been building for quite some time and not much has been done to try and prevent it. 

The game plan is tired and predictable, yet Goodwin does nothing to change it. Team selection is a farce and uninspiring and our key pillars of contest and defence have been very suspect all season. The gap between our best and worst remains miles apart and our attack and pressure on the contest has been fleeting and unsustained.

I think the supporters are well within their rights to ask some tough questions on our coaching and playing group. To not make a PF for the second year in a row with the list we have would be unacceptable.

I don’t disagree with that whatsoever. Everyone is entitled to post their opinion without ridicule. 
But there’s no doubt that there is a lot more angst thrown at those who vent over those who don’t.

they have probably just learned from years of watching that there are peaks and troughs in games and seasons. None of our players go out there and don’t try or don’t care no matter what posters think. Some are down on form, confidence and have brain fades but the comments from posters towards our players and football department are pathetic

Ummm, that’s your bias. I find it to be glaringly the other way, and it reaches fever pitch after a loss.

Unfortunatley you are probably right.

But if so, isn't that an indictment on dees fans?

Blues are in a horror strecth, the jungle drums are startng to beat for their coach and finals look a struggle. 

We are fourth on the ladder after 11 rounds.

And it is very possible more blues fan's might turn up for a demon's home game?

My personal philosopy is that the players don't owe me anything. My choice to go next Friday is not going to be based on some sense of disapointment in their perfomance againnst Freo.

I'm going on Friday night, come rain or shine, to support my team, and our players

And unfortunately i fully expect the game to be a real struggle, not unlike the freo game, with lots of scrappy play and missed targets. Tis the season for the folly. 

And so it is likley to be a close game - maybe if enough dees fan that can get there do get there, we might be able to collectively lift them over the line if it gets close.

You obviously didn’t post much during the Neeld era. Those were the days 😂

We are in a very different era now. It’s a different type of disappointment when we lose because we are good enough to win in nearly every game. It stings more, but overall it’s a lot less depressing.
