Today felt like we'd reverted back to certain ways. It didn't look like what we'd been honing in pre season.

Our pre season games were blistering and had such a great attacking style, which we haven't seen much of in the past few weeks.  Some of this is likely down to the disruptions caused by injury, but very disappointing regardless to have returned to the 2022 style...

People will hate it, but Selwyn Griffith said on the Demonland podcast, that by this stage, players are starting to fatigue badly.

Layer on the possibility that we're targeting the Collingwood game to be blistering (think that St Kilda game in Round 8 last year), we could well be managing players that fatigues them in the Freo and Carlton games and causes 15-20 intercept mark spills, suddenly poor accuracy and poor disposal and decision making...

Yes, understand why people don't think loading is a magical explanation, but also don't know why sometimes people ignore the reality that professional sport has to involve loading at different periods of the season (especially a long season like AFL).  The Selwyn Griffiths interview was great!

I think that our poor win record while playing as Narrm is linked to the timing of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round with the point in the season where we often are fatigued from draw / travel / and some form of loading to set up the second half of the season

Between the potential effects of loading and our injuries, it's not entirely surprising that our execution of the game plan is lacking at the moment.  Hope you're right that we're likely trying to be cherry ripe for the Collingwood game.  In part out of self interest because I'm visiting Melbourne for the sole purpose of that game and am a bit faint hearted to lose to Collingwood again 😂

I have no idea whether we're trying to time it for Collingwood, that's pure guesswork, but this is why it's so folly to be picking apart results at Round 10 and 11, and saying ridiculous things like sack the coach, we won't make the 8 and other such nuffiness (I'm not saying you've ever said remotely anything like this btw).

As for what I hope, I really do hope we're targeting that Collingwood game.

Freo are not rubbish.

They won 15 games last year and are heading towards a 13-14 win season this year.

There is a massive misconception around here that Fremantle are a horse manure side. They’re actually pretty damn good.

Genuine leg speed and an array of very pleasing reliabilities around goal. Capable of giving and taking a knock, too. Imagine his development now, had he been given the opportunities of rapidly tiring others - in operation with Clarrie, Tracca, Gawndy, Rivers, Fritta, JJ and Sparrow (the latter should be groomed as the mobile CHF lynchpin).

Opened the ladder this morning thinking we'd be 7th or 8th and we're actually still 4th and will stay there given everyone below us lost lmao. 

As I said yesterday. It really only appears that Collingwood and maybe Brisbane and/or Port Adelaide right now are the three clubs that are impervious to the week to week contender/pretender referendums over their form. And will all now have a significant 2/3 game gap on us.

The season aint over no matter what some may think. Its a marathon not a sprint. There are obviously some issues we need to work on, and have come up against two very tough 210+ pressure gauge teams this fortnight. We desperately need a break to refresh and I still think we should take care of business v Carlton to get there. Then we're STILL in the top 4 going into the 2nd half of the year. Not the crisis many are making it out to be, given we will have time to iron out our deficiencies and refresh

Mathematically correct but has the culture shifted? Still see selfish acts, even the 1st goal by Pickett he went for the impossible shot whilst he had players free in front of goals .. sure it went through but it’s things like that which has come into their game

Viney is the long-bomb specialist when he isn't taking his time to earn the ball. Beginning to improve in this area, he has now resumed interrupting footy flows and running to position by the rest of the team. The forwards stay back whenever he has the ball midfield, there is limited movement and Fritta (really trying as the sole mobile forward) cannot cover all options.

Tracca finds targets or moves the ball very quickly into scoring options, if not going the shot, himself. He also looks first, generally, for mobiles. One is helping, the other is so often hindering what we want - and until Badloss settles on what he wants or what the players need, the whole forward-line remains in disarray. We, the fans and particularly those of us who are MFC Members are the Club, have been for years, not a struggling Coach with set-in-concrete ideas of a past era that are so easily read. 

Clarrie was missing due to injury (and workload-induced, at that) but we should be able to cover for him with our younger apprentices - yet these players lack the critical experience of game-time.

There is the cattle as I have iterated many times alongside many contributors across DL. He helps those who help themselves - it's logical. Self control is the free man's yoke and therein lies opportunity; however, few of our senior players are in a liberating mode, hamstringing positive play and sanity in the game plan.

Outside of a freakish run in 2021 with no injuries there has been nothing to commend strategically from this coach.  He's a fish out of water and gets outcoached consistently by far worse teams.

Players have zero passion,the skills are still woeful and the gameplan is rubbish and one-dimensional.  Our forward line has somehow got EVEN WORSE.  There's nothing to bring in from Casey that will change this.

A lot of folk suggesting a lot of If-onlys.... but the stark reality is they didn't and dont.

We currently play one of the dumbest gameplans.  It's plainly inept and far too easily subject to countering. 

Its not like we have a really good way of playing...and the players can't perform it... its rather we have for the most part a list of very good players trying to fit 5 into 4 , as they say. ..   and then the "icing" is when the team don't play to their potential.  It just compounds the problem.

Modern day footy morphs a bit...  teams (coaches)  fiddle with their game optimising what they do well and trying to find that "advantage"..  spin-repeat. 

I'm a bit lost as to what we actually do well.

Watching us at the business end of 21 was enjoyable ...if nervewrecking but when we clicked it was a vision resplendid.

We're horrible to watch at the moment.

You can see the train wrecks lining up.

Our game is far too predictable therefore far too easily susceptible to it coming undone.   That by definition is not accidental.  It's by design.   I.e..  they play to instruction.

You can take the best ingredients available but if the recipe is rubbish... the result is unedible. 

The only true thing I'm surprised about currently  ...  is that , for the moment,  we are still 4th.  That truly flatters us.

Without doubt there'll be comments to the idea of injuries . Yes we have a few, suspensions also, but thats not the difference. 

Other teams with both better and arguably lesser lists are playing better footy than us.

The game moves on and we plod away trying to turn a Sow's ear of a game(plan) into Silky football.
