I thought the same thing. With McVee, Salem and Bowey back Gus has to go into the middle - probably to play Sparrows role this week.

Or Rivers

I like Brayshaw in the middle, but understand why he plays half back. I reckon they might leave Brayshaw back and give Rivers a game in the middle after his performance last week

Looks like Brayshaw will play midfield.

not sure, Goody loves him on HB.

Rivers might be the one to play more midfield

Jordon is stiff as.  I think he is realising he is not only not best 22. but he might not be best 24

Love Salem but that selection integrity in AFL is like paying taxes - doesn’t apply to the elite.

I hope it works out for him.

Yep, the midfield rotations are a thing.

Hopefully keep us fit and firing at the pointy end.

Is the Salo pick a red herring and he's going to get pulled pre-game or do we not play those games?

How would Port set up differently if Salo is in @Demonland?

Salem's return smacks of over reaching given what happened last year.

Hope it ends well. My guess is that if the game permits he will be subbed off mid third quarter by Jordon

Do you not think that both he and the club have an understanding that he has a contract elsewhere next year… looks plain as day to me  👍

That plus giving experience opportunity to others as a bit of insurance policy?

Thinking it could be a bit of reverse think by the FD here EO?

Port VG at preventing teams from marking, especially shorter kicks, in an attempt to force the oppo to kick it longer down the line to 50/50s.

They do this by going one v one rather than zoning on opp players closer to the ball carrier while still applying a zone further out.

Bringing Salo in might be somewhat of a counter from us.  Ie., bringing in another very good user of the ball by foot over shorter (kick / mark) distances to combat their strat here so they aren't getting the game on their terms so easily.

A big surprise with Salo. I hope the club isn’t rushing him back. They did last year and his season really suffered.

Thrilled with no Dixon. He’s a monster and he always troubles us.

100% with you re Salo being a surprise!  Goody did mention in his midweek presser that he’d completed a mini pre-season, so I think we can be confident that our Club knows what it’s doing, and isn’t bringing him back prematurely.  Fingers crossed nonetheless!

Think you're underselling Macca a little PF.  He's a proud experienced campaigner and will add the "leading forward" who can also play higher up ther field as the connector at times.

Allows Roo to play a bit more time deeper and focus on crashing packs / getting ball to ground and taking the odd contested.  Roo is also a very accurate kick up to about 35 meters.  Makes sense to keep him closer to the 30 meter zone.  The boys will need to ensure they don't kick too many shallow entries though in order for the strat to pay off.  Port will of course be looking to curtail that idea!

Some very interesting selection decisions - given the smaller Power forwards makes sense.

Power are in form - pity it’s not a full squad as we need a real test to get a read on where we stand.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
