I don't post in games day threads, or even if read it - even when watching live on TV.

It distracts me

I don’t talk much to anyone when watching the game either. I'm concentrating.

But I'm guessing there is a community of sorts that regularly post in game day threads. And they enjoy it - even the silinness and hot takes.

What happens in the game day thread, stays in the game day thread.

Each to their own.

And posters get a pass for most hot takes given the passion and high emotion (which I completely share too).

But three days post game leaves plenty of time for more sober reflection.

So I'm happy to say 80% of this post is absolute rubbish.

Case study one:

'They still have a problem with transferring'

Total bollocks.

In fact we are NUMBER ONE in the AFL in this exact stat.

Four slots above everybody's fast transfer darlings the pies, even though they have one more win than us and in our loss to the lions we were well down on that stat.

Glad you watch with one eye shut, you are allowed to do that go watch the game again when the game was getting closer kickouts were down the line they got boxed in, it was only after they got back on top that free flowing football started to get going.

I said in a post last year after round 9-10 that we were in trouble with the way we played, some here howled that down, guess what towards the end of the year other people picked up on it so yes I look at a game slightly different to you.

I aslo said that they will work it out but hey you look at your way I will look at it my way no big deal.

There's different ways to watch the game just like there's different ways to use DL. There's days when I post 20 times in the Gameday thread, days when I might only do a couple with maybe a half time post, days when I'm not on it at all.

The beauty is choice and your personal enjoyment. Life is full of entrees so don't fill up on bread.

You don't think there is chance that is how they have been instructed to play when the opposition has momentum?

You know, be prudent with the risks you take (like the play that set up the Chandler goal that stopped their momentum and triggered our more attacking play from that point on).

Why?

Because whilst risk (eg an aggressive kick to the corridor) can lead to reward (ie we score) it also significantly increases the chances of the opposition scoring.

As Goody has said any number of times (and pointed out again in his post match presser, about both this match and the round one match) the oppo will inevitably have the momentum at some point in match but the critical thing is to limit how much they score when they do.

Weather the storm and all that. Like a boxer protecting the head when their opponent is on top and landing a knockout blow when the momentum swings.

Most other teams would have given up 4 or 5 goals - and the lead - during the period the Swans had the momentum. Not us.

Once we wrest the momentum back, we put the pedal to the metal, increase the risks we take and look to make hay whilst the sun shines and score heavily when WE have the momentum. And put the game to bed.

You know, exactly as happened, as you yourself note, on Sunday.

And has happened so many other times under Goody. We have played three games this season and it has already occurred twice (ie the oppo have momentum, we ensure they can't take advantage of it, we wrest it back and blitz)

I watch with both eyes open, and because i do i know that this hold and surge method is one of our key strategies and has been deployed so many times under Goody it's not funny - the GF being the most famous example.

But hey, as you say, you look at the game your way I will look at it my way.

I have to agree with @binman. I understand when people get frustrated with down-the-line kicks at different stages of the game but it really is by design. We have built our game and success on how well we perform at the contest. 9/10 we are looking to bring that long ball to ground to either work our way out and forward OR create a stoppage to aim to do the same.

But as I'm sure its been mentioned the weekends game presented by far the best ball movement across four quarters I have seen since 2021 and dare I say better in many respects. As mentioned by several commentators we changing the angles as we move forward with our kicking which is opening up the ground and giving us far better, less predictable forward entries. If we can continue to execute this its going to drive opposition teams mad.

When you sit near me at the footy, all you'll hear is witty repartee.

For example when JVR got his first free kick the other day, I yelled out 'bout bloody time - they've been doing that his entire career!!'

If the lions game had not been stopped do you really think we would have come back like that no way, so let's not get carried away with that one.

I read pre and post game. Cannot read during game. Mostly hyper negative comments then i look at scoreboard and we are 5 goals in front !

Took a brief look before half time against Swans someone posted Viney was passed it. That was it for me. Post game thread is good.

During the game pure hysterics.

Anyone who passed it to Viney on Sunday was likely complicit in a turnover

Having looked at the replay, Viney wasn't as bad as I thought on the day! Ok he scrubbed a few kicks and missed a few targets but so do all inside mids.

Brayshaw was the one I was disappointed in... One contested possession for the game!

I often have a look at the game day thread. Sometimes post but more often just have a read. When I’m losing the plot shouting at the tv it’s just nice to see I’m not the only one.
I don’t think anybody needs to apologise for what they say in the heat of the moment. It’s a good place to vent.

It could have gone the other way. But it didn’t.
We came home hard. Grundy got serious. We lost by 11 points

Saved a lot of %

Look at the stats...Viney ( and Trac) had the most " crtl errors" ( leading to turnovers)in the team ( 6 each) no one else got close.

Trac had a lot more possessions though

But you cannot always be clean out of the middle

Pressure is flat out. Stats don’t take that into account

Completely agree with this.

im glad I can’t get done for umpire dissent, but I don’t write it down. Generally because I’m too busy cursing.

I too watched the replay on monday and in light of some viney bashing here on 'land i paid particular attention to viney. I thought his game was ok, not starring but, and his delivery was relatively good taking into account pressure etc. My conclusion was the criticism was unfair. I'll trust my eyes over any cherry picked stats however.

I suggest those critics watch the replay and reconsider

If you hate the gameday thread so much, then ask Andy to abolish it and see how that works out.

Not a psychologist.

I’d be lost without the GameDay thread. It’s somewhere to go on GameDay morning when you feel sick and you’re a bundle of nerves coz GameDay. You’re in the company of likemindeds who understand perfectly. But..

Come the first bounce and I beat a hasty retreat. Not just because I’m too preoccupied with avoiding being hit in the head by an errant flagpole or a giant head or a snap at goal. It’s because I get a little upset at even the slightest bagging of any of our players so I can’t begin to imagine how upsetting the posts during the game must be.

PS: his name is David not Andy 😂

Andy is Andy, but only when he’s not David. And he was David for quite some time because he was too polite to correct a work colleague who thought his name was David.

Geez, Daise. Get with the freaking program.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
