Very disappointing that we aren’t contesting it. Maybe we didn’t want the media circus around Kosi.

edit: two weeks to rest the hands for a signature on a long contract 😂

Wasn't it a free throw at the stumps?

You may well be right with regards to the media circus @Wells 11 in an above post also made a pertinent point about possibly consulting Kozzie

What a crock. Should’ve contested the impact rating, which is categorically incorrect. Would’ve brought it down to one week suspension instead.

The next two weeks just got harder. Lions and Swans are two contenders, so losing Kozzie hurts. Hopefully the club is supporting him well and we get his signature soon.

Not surprised we did not take it to the Tribunal as we tend to accept penalties regardless of inconsistency with other decisions or having an arguable case. I would have preferred we take up the case as it is certainly arguable as has been well covered in this thread, and there is little to lose in doing so. Frustrating to have had a few of these 'example' suspensions over the years at the club.

Disagree. Its done and Buddy got the best deal of the two.

Melbourne cant be distracted this week by some ridiculous media circus before heading to QLD.

MFC is far too busy.

I wonder if they asked Kosi what he wanted to do and he said he's happy to accept the penalty, and doesn't want to front the tribunal and deal with the media.

While it isn't ideal that he misses the next 2 weeks, Viney and Fritta coming in will certainly ease the pain, and it means Kosi gets two weeks to spend tied to an office chair by Tim Lamb being forced to sign a contract.

I thought about this also.

As long as Pickett feels supported and it was him that made then call then I'm happy.

It's these little things that will come into consideration whether he stays or goes.

We agree again, though the Lawyer in me is annoyed.

Disappointed it is 2 weeks rather than just 1 week. However, it is probably fair (fingers crossed that Buddy Franklin gets 2 weeks as well).

I think Kozzy was trying to emulate his Uncle Byron with his deadly hip and shoulder and show aggression. Nevertheless, you simply cannot just "iron out" players like that anymore due to the serious risks of concussion.

I am all for tough, hard and "unsociable" football. But the thuggery of the 1970's and 1980's is now a bygone era. Although it was highly entertaining watching that type of football.

Who remembers the video series "Biffs, Bumps and Brawlers"? It was brilliant and I definitely used to enjoy watching both series (as shown below).

Biffs, Bumps and Brawlers (Part 1):

Biffs, Bumps and Brawlers (Part 2):

Nowadays, you simply can't get away with it (remember Tommy Bugg's whack on Swans player Callum Mills in 2017 that basically ended his AFL career?) and you just gotta focus on going hard at the ball and not at the man.

Good decision by the club I feel. I’m sure there are several past players struggling with concussion related life issues and that are part of the current legal action that the MFC would also feel some responsibility for.
Unlucky for Kozzy and us that he is the first but it it well past time that the potential outcome of actions are looked at as well as just the outcome. It wasn’t that long ago that the match day report would have been thrown out for insufficient force. I think 2 weeks is a good starting point for a first offender for such an incident now.
Just hope they also start to treat deliberate head punches and elbows just as seriously such as the [censored] we saw by the repeat offender Cotchin a few weeks ago.

He is now back for the game against Wet Toast in Perf… wonder if they’ll let him take a bit of time away and meet us in Perf for that game?

Whilst not because of a suspension, I recall them letting LJ take quite a few trips back home during the season.

To then meet with Freo ...

I  have no problem with the 2 weeks based on the potential to cause serious injury.  I've always though just basing things on outcome is stupid.  But doesn't knocking someone out also indicate a potential to cause serious injury? Buddy?

I haven't read anything but what's the media think about the length? Are they bitching about the MRO?

There lies the issue that so many here have highlighted

Many can accept the 2 week penalty (myself included) but it's a joke that Buddy only gets 1 week

The more knowledgeable journalists are objectively looking at the action (intent/force/height) and are landing roughly where it netted out.

The ‘special comments’ types are up in arms and want 17 weeks.

Kane Cornes and David King are the loudest voices I’ve heard that wanted more, ignoring that two weeks for a no actual harm incident is a huge leap forward for something that not long ago would have been thrown out for insufficient force.

Whateley and Damien Barrett are two big profiles that think it’s a fair outcome.

Maybe get Mick Stinnear and the 28 AFLW Demon Players who just re-signed in one block to work on him 😁

Serious question. Have we ever appealed a tribunal decision. I would have contested both length of ANB suspension and the Kade Chandler suspension. I genuinely can’t remember us contesting a decision. We are a very “nice club” Good thing we are a football club and not a cricket club because we don’t appeal. In this case if Kossie was consulted and satisfied that will do me. If not we should have at least had a go at getting it down to a 1 game suspension.

Only one I can remember was the Viney one when Tom Lynch was knocked out and he got off.

That was ridiculous because he was contesting the ball and braced for impact.

You're missing the point, the potential for an unnecessary act to cause injury.

How do you measure "Potential to cause Injury"? Isnt ANY tackle, bump, in play contest, spoil, high mark hanger, or nearly anything else Potential to cause?? Ambiguous at best and legally perhaps not even enforceable. Prime evidence of Buddy Fiasco Big Buddy given his weight differential was 5 time more likely to put said players head into orbit!! So where was his 6 weeks for potential?? Again the AFL Have made a rod for its back. I hope the Dees challenge on not only this technicality , but also the obvious medium contact to the body and not the head. And remember the mullet got up unscathed and played out the rest of the game! Case closed!

Trengove. Unsuccessfully.

King wants every player who does something wrong hanged, drawn and quartered because he thinks it will somehow magically stop all incidents.

Funnily enough he doesn’t apply the same logic to himself and numerous fellow North team mates who have had run ins with the law.

Cornes is just a troll with a sinister motive.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
