Four premiership players missing from that side today

Thats the way it should be. Its 2 years nearly since and some players looked much better with another season under their belts.

Viz. ANB Spargo Rivers Bowey Sparrow.

Plus the youngsters McVee Chandler especially plus Laurie, and it is Interesting that we won today by 50 points with these 3 players SOME D/LERS HAVE SAID WE COULD NOT WIN THE TWO FINALS if they replaced the injured/tired/banged up.

Admittedly Grundy and Hunter made a real difference today and a fit Gawny Trac and Lever plus Tmac.

We did not have Viney Fritta or Salem 3 A graders in our team today and were in the best half dozen in the GF in 2021.

Yeah fair point Bin.

It's definitely not lost in my observation of both games. Certainly yesterday I noticed it more. I think a part of my frustration is that we simple direct and straight footy this gives guys like Brown and Gawn who both have that long arm reach.

This plays to their strengths, so let's hopefully sustain it throughout the year with some tweaks in between.

They seemed to have put work into how they deliver to the talls, particularly maxy.

There were a few kicks that were put in front and relatively flat, but not a pass as such. Like a hybrid kick to a pack and pass.

Nibbler, who was simply outstanding, did a few.

If the umpires do indeed start paying frees for chopping arms and pushes, as intimated by healy, that is going to be a big advantage to us given our forward set up.

Just for fun (starting early) went to the Punt Road End to have a squiz at what that bunch thought, which could be divided into three categories, (including those not smart enough to be able to breathe through their noses).

1, The umpires gifted us goals but after a dismal 1st quarter they broke even in the clearances and are on track for a victorious campaign.

2, they are a mile off, Cotchin doesn't work as a forward, Melbourne looks formidable, we are cheating the Salary cap, Melbourne is fit, and our transition is a thing to behold.

3, Melbourne is making the same mistake as 2022, going too hard to soon. Premierships aren't won in the preseason.

They all begrudgingly rate us, and our list. They are a bit scared of Grawndy...

I'm still getting used to us actually being good. Not just for a game here or there, or even for one season, but consistently good over a period of years. It's not just the supporters of other teams, it's also the media. For example, look how often Melbourne stories make the media and how the media illustrate their generic stories with photos of Melbourne players when they could use anyone.

Did Shache play in the curtain raiser?

Any feedback on how he went.

Thanks

PS... Just found the Casey thread and my question has been answered

It's interesting that you say we looked levels above the tigers - i thought the same in both practice matches, particularly in terms of fitness and condition. Neither tram could go with us late in quarters. By god they look incredibly fit.

Perhaps Binny, 2022 was the year we spent loading for 2023

Commentators didn't even pick it up. Apparently was "fantastic use of the body" by Martin. Well, I guess the hands are part of the body 🤷🏽

What about an in depth interview featuring Ms Frittata, and your good self on the subject of Decorum, and Enlightenment of two great Damsels on Demonland no holds barred edition for the cultural evocation of those who need some cerebral engagement and lessons of life???

And Ill entertain Fido, never been a dog alive that hasnt taken a shine to "The Fence"

Yeah nah this is where the wheels fell off. If it’s decorum you seek, best you look elsewhere. Unless your definition of decorum is the complete opposite, in which case we’re your gals.

Just one example: at the B&F, we snuck out onto the terrace, dragged a huge pot-plant to the corner to hide behind and had a cigarette directly under the “No Smoking” sign. Hashtag badass. Just to add to the spectacle: in the days leading up to that night we’d both had separate accidents. I was sporting a shiner and bruised knees, she was in a moonboot and her arm was in a sling. Yep, all class. 😁

I sense there is an attitude of we still have to win a GF at the G amongst the players. Bring it on.

And the supporters od. Let's rip that monkey off the back this year.

Is the antithesis of decorum known as corum? 😆

Sweet. But be sure you’ve got your censorship rules sorted. We make Gordon Ramsay sound like Mother Teresa. 😁

GORDON RAMSAY IS ONE OF MY HERO'S

But so too is ROWAN ATKINSON, BEAR GRYLS, and JOHN CLEESE!

Not a bad punt.

Hopefully Freo win that, and we’re in the other prelim!

Hopefully Freo don't make the 8 and we get a better draft pick.

This performance and 2 out of our best 10 players out in Salem and Fritta.

Wowsers!

Pressure coming from our young brigade, i like it.

Poor Viney not considered one of our best players? I reckon he’s ahead of Salem

Yes that would be the far better scenario, but if Freo play Collingwood in the prelim (and we're good enough to get to the GF), I'd much rather play Freo in a GF and have the crowd on our side rather than the alternative being Collingwood.

I know it was just a practice match but there are troubling signs for Richmond. Reiwoldt, Cotchin and Martin all looked "old and slow". I think they could get away with playing one of them, preferably Martin, but all three in the one team is going to help drive them over the proverbial cliff.

Add Grimes o to that list too, he was awful.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
