I don't reckon Im going out on a limb here but geez I like the look of Sparrow.

He appears to have developed/matured and I'm tipping a monster season from him.

Good win.plenty of positives. Gawn dominant, hunter & Grundy are going to be awesome recruits & will definitely play a massive role& good to see T Mac leading, marking & kicking goals

Well, we didn't lose it. And thank God we're not Essendon

Pretty Good effort, that

Hunter will be the bargain of the Year

Grundy is getting better

Good to see another Woey running around in the red and blue. Looked very clean in his brief appearance.

Impressive on many fronts.

Chandler could’ve had 4 goals.

Our midfield rotations is looking juicy AF

Very enjoyable hit-out. Fluent ball movement and players looking fit and primed. I can’t wait for the season to get underway

A good solid session.

Great to see all the players looking injury free.

Huge game from Max

Gawndy combo looking eggzellent...

Goalkicking was very good.

Kicking 121 points against a supposed contender without Fritsch (who would have kicked at least 4 with that supply) is very pleasing from a connection point of view.

Grundy and Gawn, I wasn't sold on the idea, but it is making us look pretty formidable. I loved Jackson, but I'm already thinking [censored] Jackson.

The only negatives would be that Chandler and Laurie didn't really take their chances, and Ben Brown is still a bit of a worry.

Oh and I should mention that Lachie Hunter was an absolute smirking pest when he played for the Dogs, but he's always been a very good player. This is nothing new. That was the best trade of the off season.

Forward line got some potency about it going by our score and without Fritch.

There seems to be some urgency with the dees this year. They want another flag!

Was Oliver off injured at the end?

Played in the centre at the last bounce. Looked fine

Nope. He always carries on a little bit when he cops a knock but he's missed one game in about six years. Lock him in for Round 1.

KNOCK ON WOOD YOUNG SIR

Did Dusty play? Or more correctly - Which of our players took Dusty out of the game? No mention in the commentary.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
