Wouldn't have thought a small forward would be high on their priority list given they had Bobby Hill, Jack Ginnivan, Jamie Elliott & Beau McCreery all playing in their GF team.

He's an upgrade on Ginnivan, Elliot is aging.

Makes complete sense.

Argh.. Collingwood have pulled off another beauty here..

god dammit. he was one of freo's best players last year (and i saw a lot of him because of the death ride).

Elliot is 31, Ginnivan is looking like he is not 1st choice , McCreery is avearge and a bad kick at goal. Bobby Hill had a great finals series but inconsistent.

I'd take schulze over all of the above @ the Dee's . He is a tough smart forward and just what we need, bummer he will end up at the filth

It’s not done yet, if I’m Freo I’m asking for 2 first round picks.

North would surely offer one of their end of first rounders if they could get him.

No reason for Freo to give him away a year early for anything but massive overs.

Bloody good get by Collingwood. Schultz is a gun. Just the sort of player we need.

1 year left. Freo should drive a hard bargain. Will definitely take Pick 18 and some change to get it done.

Once you put on that jumper you close the door to the Dees!

Freo really is a joke of a club though....

Is Jackson regretting his decision to leave us?.... wait a minute he's got 900k one dollar bills to wipe off his tears.

Honestly I don't think he even cares that much. He's just happy to be with his family

We should try to recruit Angus' brother, once he sees the wheels falling off at Freo 😏😏

Interesting that 30mins ago Goldstein has been confirmed to make his way to the bombers but no confirmation on McKay. Think they were submitted at the same time.

Is he even aware that he's changed teams?

Schulz a free agent next year, due to delisted free agency. What a mess that covid inspired exception is.

If I’m Freo I’m still holding him and expecting someone to pay end of first round money based on Doedee.

Roos have 3 days to match on Mckay and are not matching on Goldstein.

If it's pick 3 though they are taking that and running no? Adelaide didn't match doedee and got pick 19 straight away today.

Maybe wishfully thinking but perhaps it's not band 1 like they hoped?

the problem with this is that players demand trades and pretty much always get their way

if clubs had the ability to trade players under contract where they so chose, he would - as you said earlier - probably be exchanged for one of north's end of first round compo-for-being-[censored] picks and he'd be there for a year before being able to sign wherever he wants as a free agent

the trade and free agency system in afl is garbage

It's borderline tampering with fair competition, just look at the JHF situation.

Isn’t he the guy that when Jesse announced he was off to GWS, said: “Hooooooogaaannn!!”

Trading players without their consent is terrible, they don’t make enough money for that disruption.

It’s a terrible system. There’s lots of better changes possible.

But clubs do hold players to contracts. There’s plenty who want to leave and don’t make it to trade week.

Freo can hold him or open up bids to everyone else if the Pies don’t come to the party. The nature of the family issues and the Pies keenness to pay up will probably determine if Freo budge.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
