I can see him improving even more. His capacity to lead to unusual spaces, his snaps are getting better and he is primed as one of the first picked, is durable and has some swagger going on. I predict this will be his year.

William's is working hard on them getting their set shots right. If Tracc, Vines and Oliver become "dead eyes", watch out,

as taking our opportunities will hurt the oppositions. Some appear to flourish under the tutelage of Choco.

So happy Choco was lured to North. He is so important to our team.

Each kick, be it long or short, was towards a leading Brown, McDonald or Fritsch, mostly moving back into an empty forward zone. This was very different to our long kicks into pockets last year.

A very welcome observation. We play best when we do this.ย

I wonder how much better it is for a premium ruckman to be training with (or against) another premium ruckman rather than a second stringer? We see it all the time with the best forwards having to battle the best defenders. But most clubs don't have a quality second ruckman to put up against their first choice big man.

A very valid point regarding the ruckman pitted against each other..Also how lucky for the up and coming two younger ones as well as JVR learning some skill sets.

Agree happy to retain him should sign him up for another 3 years.

I would love to see Chandler or Laurie crack into the team for ANB or Spargo I know they play a row but feel they lack input

Um, and I emphasize, um, I am getting a 'vibe' that the sins of 2022 have been addressed by both the recruiters and the sheer luck of injury incidence. Fingers crossed the latter continues, and I feel so much for Sean's son who seems to have been cursed...

The vibe I am getting is similar to the Richmond response to falling after premiership success. Posters have mentioned Griffith and his 'sins' compared to his 'defector', but in the end, injury management is a contest between the gods and sheer natural serendipity. Touch wood, the tea leaves seem benign at the moment. Long may they continue to fall this way.

More than that, the vibe from the players feels better than at any time in my long years as a Melbourne supporter.

ANB goal tally was so low because he missed so many shots. If he had kicked straighter he could have easily kicked 20 goals but Spargo has to do more on the scoreboard.ย

I think that it will be on for young and old this year Deemac we have some great kids coming through the ranks and I wonโ€™t be surprised if 4-5 players debut this year.!!

I would. van Rooyen is the only 1 that should debut. If we have a good year it would be hard to see any youngster get a gig. It will be tough for spots.

Sorry WD I said debut but include new faces such as Chandler & Turner, the debutantes are JVR, Laurie and Howes, they will need to knock the door down but we must have a degree of refresh in the team and fierce competition for spots.

Agree, I think McVee, Turner, Howes, JVR and even Jefferson andย Woewodin.ย

Chandler looks like he will do just about anything to get a run.ย

With so many ready to go recruits, Schache, Grundy, Hunter plus a few experienced (Melksham was looking good) and 2 to 4 year players on the periphery, there will be plenty of pressure for positions.ย

Still think we will blood a few this season. We ran out of steam last year. Hoping we rest the not quite right players.ย

Thank you for all the reports, Round 1 will be here before we know it.

Do we know what's going on with the Community series this year?ย

I could be wrong about this but isn't it up to clubs now to organise their own practice games??

Thought they changed thay last year??

They might not be pretty, but for athletes who value their feet, they are probably the best 'open' shoe option they can wear.

Sure beats thongs.ย

Birkenstocks will, in many cases,ย  fix and/or prevent planta fasciatis. Thongs should be banned from any player use.ย  Worst footwear possible.

I'm with you Monbon.ย  I have never been more optimistic before a season than this year. Many reasons for that, but I ssupect even the players know they faded in finals for probably health reasons, and that a Flag is there to be won this year.

It's more difficult to hit the scoreboard if he's playing higher up the field, as he was last season compared to the premiership year.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
