Prepare for a Power blackout this Sunday

Its been a [censored] 5 weeks, no doubt about it. 0 wins, 5 losses. A woeful percentage

All the Demon faithful are hangiong to see a win, and it will happen this week vs the Power. I can not see us going 0-6

This game is our grand final. We lose, we will not make the Finals. We win, then nothing is surer than the Red and Blue marching into September on a high

Neitz will be back, and he will straighten us up as he has for the last decade, he loves the Power, and they hate him. he owns them. Also, Port have never beaten us at the MCG. NEVER. Not once!

Michael Newton must play this week! he shou;d have dedbuted a fe weeks ago, but sad;y the likes of Brown, Godfrey, Ward and jamar were in the side

My tip - the Demons by 49

Neiz and Newton to do an 'Andy Lovell/Allen Jakovich vs Richmond' impersonation and snag 8 goals each

Petterd 31 touches and 2 goals off the HBF. Davey a career high 27 disposals.

BRING IT ON

O wise one, I'm still waiting for you to impart your wisdom on me in relation to my queries in the "we're gunna smash the Swannies this week" thread.

Damn you Y_M. I was going to tip Melbourne this week on the back of Port never beating you at the MCG, S.Burgoyne being out and Neitz probably returning, but I will have to reassess that now.

Has anyone every called you "Kiss of Death"?

Do you do much research when you do your predictions, or is it all just gut feelings?

Do you realise that Melbourne averages 73 points per game so far this year. So to win by 49 points this week, you might be looking at restricting Port to a score of about 24 points. Good luck with that.

How have Brown, Godfrey, Jamar and Ward negatively impacted Newton's opportunities?

I was thinking the same thing, Ash. Stop jinksing us YM! I agree we are in a much better position to win this week, but the team has to play with 10 times more heart than they've displayed in 4 of the first 5 rounds (Freo game excluded because of that last quarter effort). The first quarter of last week was same of the weakest crap i've seen Melbourne dish out, and in the end that was the only quarter that really made the difference.

Neitz could well be the difference this week, if he plays we'll win IMO, if he doesn't that another record will be broken.....PORTS FIRST WIN AGAINST US AT THE G!!!!

YM - your passion is commendable and I hope you are right but not much thought has gone into your comments. A few insights though:

1. I don't think one win will see us "marching into September"!

2. Agree it is time Newton got his chance.

3. Don't know why people consistently bag Godfrey! Sure he lacks ability but his commitment and courage is unquestionable. By the way he did a fair job on Goodes last game. Obviously Goodes thought so too - hence his report!

4. To win by 49 points we will need to kick a lot of goals. How many do you think Neitz can kick in his first game back? Four would be a fantastic effort!

Next week YM, come on here and start a thread that goes something like "Eagles will definitely down the dees."

At least then we'd have a sniff.

That'd be better, other than the fact we play the bullies next week! :P

Keep it up. Some positivity amongst the gloom.

Sensational.

Your comment literally made me laugh out loud, and now people in my class think I'm crazy! <_<

It's not YM jinxing us, but someone sure is. If anybody who reads this site has worn the same "lucky" socks, jocks, scarf or footy jumper to our matches since say 1965 would you mind changing your routine.

Well considering I went on to nearly burn down half the testing- lab this afternoon, then yes, quite possibly.

Seriously though, if we get Neita, Green and Jones back, we have to be some sort of chance.

We cannot keep using injuries as an excuse, if we'll only be missing McLean, Whelan, Robbo and Bartram from our best 22 on Sunday.

agree but in the same breath you have to give the injured players time to get back to match fitness and practice

That's fine. But as someone here has said, if you got 4 goals out of Neitz in his first game back you'd be rapt. I still think that even with Neitz back, a 49 point margin is unrealistic.

Don't get me wrong, I think Melbourne are a huge chance this week. Despite Ports performances so far this year, I'm still not convinced by them. Burgoyne available to play doesn't help the Dees, but if you get Neitz and a couple of others back, Melbourne are too good a team to be 0-6.

No research is required when you are Yze_Magic

When you have been around the game for this long at the level I have, you tend to pick up things

Its a gift I am extremely proud of, and grateful for

Y_M posts this kind of thing every week Ash, as I'm sure you've noticed. Sometimes he's right, usually he is wrong. I'd just take his posts for what they are, an overly optimistic bunch of toss that not even the man himself believes. They're somewhat refreshing though, amongst all the doom and gloom posts.

Yeah, I know that. I don't take these sorts of threads very seriously.

I just like proving him wrong with facts.

For example, the other way to look at the 49 point margin theory is :

Melbourne has conceded on average 113 points per game this year, with a low of 93 vs St Kilda in Round 1. So even if Melbourne have a season low for points against of say, 80 [which 5 goals less than your average], you then will need to kick 129 points to win by 49 points. Even with Neitz back, Melbourne will do well to kick 20 goals against Port Adelaide this week.

when lloyd was missing from your line-up last year did you simply equate his absence to an amount of goals that he might score if he was playing? or that he's captain, brings other players into the game, makes them grow a leg etc etc.

Yes that all comes into it.

Not sure your point though. Are you trying to tell me that even with all of those "Neitz Factors" considered, that a team that has lost every game so far by an average of 40 points is going to beat a team that is 4-1 by 49 POINTS.

I'll repeat, don't get me wrong, I reckon Melbourne is a big chance this week, and I may well tip them, all I'm saying is scale back on the margin a bit. Logic and stats don't point to a big margin.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
