Bell has to go. He would have been the Stamp of Jackos contract.

It was too delicate a situation over there for supporters to have probably played such a big role in bringing in someone on that money to that Club. Just too unsettling, and i am very glad the oldest nephew is with us.

We have many new players now demanding a game at Demons and from watching yesterdays Casey match we have a few more that will be trying to get a game. We look well stocked.

Even if a few left (Harmes, Laurie, Woey for example) for more games at a different club which is possible, we should consider combining our first pick (say 18) and the second Freo pick (say 21) for a future 1st with a club that we believe will have a top 8 pick, but thinks they are going to have a good season in 2024, maybe like Hawthorn. It spreads this harvest into the future.

The way the Cats are going in the third quarter, they should be above the Dockers on the ladder by the end of the game.

Thinking back to last season when we played Freo in Perth. Despite Freo losing,  Mundy had 35 touches and 15 contested possessions against us in tough conditions. He was their best player by miles. And then they tell him to [censored] off despite an excellent season. Can a club be run by headless chooks?

  • Pearce is a disgrace, lucky to keep his spot let alone lead the team.

They should throw him up forward

Jackson’s best was a key reason we won a flag but does he have much more of a ceiling or is there more improvement in him?

I think he needs to a be a number one ruck to fully get the most out of his ability.

With an apparent marquee ruckman already there how does this happen? They have really stuffed it.

They have Lost Logue and Lobb. their two mains fwds from last year.

no Fyfe and no tabener.

they literally have no spine.

bottom 4 is becoming likely

I know this isn't a thread on LJ, but if Freo weren't based in Perth, would Freo really have set their sights so strongly (if at all) on LJ?

It feels like they had tunnel vision because LJ was a high draft pick West Australian, and so cleared out 3-4 best 22 players to fit him in.

LJ may well end up being a star, but it appears Freo have this hyperfocus on WA products to the detriment of their actual list needs.

If I were Freo, I'd have definitely enquired, but given they already have Darcy, it wouldn't have gone much further if I knew that getting him would mean having to clear out 3 or 4 best 22s. That's insane and it's a philosophy that Melbourne clearly don't share. No one player is bigger than the club.

I wonder what Longmuir thought of the trade...

I feel like Jackson is a bit like an all-rounder in test cricket.

Unless he becomes good enough to hold a spot as a first ruck or tall forward, he risks being a liability to the team as often (or more than) he is a saviour.

In a strong team with a strong first ruck and other KPFs his versatility becomes his strength to be leveraged, because his weaknesses aren't being exploited by the opposition.

I don't think Freo are strong enough to support him like this at the moment.

I do think one of his best chances of being the true unicorn is becoming a tall midfielder (30-50% of game time) who can also be second ruck and rest forward to help create mismatches. So I applaud them trying this.

Bell should have been shown the door after the Hogan Fiasco.
They just do not learn over there…

Listen to their Coach, one of the most uninspiring voices i have heard…

To be a good Coach, you have to start with Passion.

People bag Lyon, but all his players love him. He got the Shockers to a GF

In fairness to JL, Goody isn't far behind him. Press conferences are usually a snore fest.

Only difference is Goody can actually Coach and has the medallion to back that up. His persona is definitely different when he's game day coach which is a strength of Goody.

I have no problem listening to Goody.
he has improved dramatically since 2016-17.

He has also been told to listen more to his match committee

(You will have noticed more youth is now being given Senior exposure)

Yep that is a major part of their problem but they still haven’t woken up to it.

Look at the record - Cam McCarthy, Harley Bennell, Jesse Hogan, Des Headland (not a total fail but he was disappointing), now Jackson & Col Sylvia was the icing on the cake.

Until Freo learns to target players they actually need they will be a dud side.

There was an article post LJ trade stating that Freo had Jackson as #1 on their draft board in his draft year

Blinded their logic as their team had developed differently since the draft year. As I pointed out before the trade will was the wrong time and will unsettle their team.

We all need to continue to comment on how well Peter Bell is doing at Fremantle, we need to change the negative narrative in the media, the guy is doing absolute wonders for the MFC.  To a long and successful partnership with Freo 🍻🍻🍻

Yeah, agree.  Bell is doing a great job at Freo, but surely his tallents could also take him other places?

Was a great player at North and I think Clarko would love to have him at North in a few years, when they are starting to rise back up the ladder.

I reckon if they were told they needed to gain and use a no.1 pick to get Jackson they still would have done it.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
