His stats might be a bit better if not for his poor technique and execution when kicking for goal - lots of OOTFs and not making the distance efforts I suspect

This is an area of his game that needs a lot of work - that and his second efforts which to be fair seem to be improving slightly

Should feel at home with his teammates in the senior side with his kicking.

Yep agree.

JVR has been on record saying that those AFL games in his first year gave him the insight into how hard he needed to work in the off season in terms of his strengths and fitness.

Pretty much said that getting a feel for senior bodies is what set him up for a strong pre season in terms of knowing here he had to get to compete against the bigger bodies.

JVR on the record about something that didn’t exist?

JVR kicked 36 goals from 18 vfl games in his first year and they deliberately held him back from a late season AFL debut so he had a big summer to get physically ready.

Jeffo in year 2 is now right on pace for where JVR was in year one.

There’s some risk and reward to playing him when he’s still not physically ready but it shouldn’t matter much either way.

Hardly a compelling case for promotion then - but I’m sure the FD will determine the right time for Matthew

It might be this season or it might not

If it’s the latter I just hope PF can keep atleast one or two toys in the pram

Not sure Jeffo is ready. Jack Watts' debut still haunts me.

I’m not sure he deserves a promotion yet but to be fair he is more physically ready than Jack Watts

Atleast he has spent two seasons playing against seasoned bodies in the VFL

If he does get a chance this season it would be wise to temper expectations regarding his output imo

His first year of playing AFL footy which was 2023 just to make it clear enough.

I hope we don’t start rubbishing him if his first game is a poor one. He is showing a bit now and hopefully he and JVR can form a great key forward combo for us for years to come.

Maybe IF he is going to be “gifted a game to give him a taste” it would be better were it the final round ….  the harshest critics may have checked out by then and there would be a long time before he was offered another opportunity..

Sydee - I admit to not having seen him but seem to recall some commentary that he had excellent technique.  I stand corrected.

Being a bit of a tragic I try and watch most Casey games either live or on replay

His kicking technique needs work because imo he often gets too close to the man on the mark and as a result he is forced to kick the ball higher than he needs to. This means his kicks are more susceptible to being pushed offline due to any wind and they can lack penetration and fall shorter than would otherwise be the case

I am not saying I’m an expert but I also think his ball drop looks a bit high which also may result in less consistent contact

He isn’t terrible and I really think it’s a matter of making some small adjustments to get better results

max gruzewksi ahead of him with 30.19 from 13 games

You mean Gruzewski, comrade?

I'm on the Jeffo bandwagon.
Don't exaggerate expectations and instead let's guarantee him 3 games so we can have a good look and he can be comfortable.

We definitely should have a look at him before trade period when we might make moves on Waterman or Houston.

Why not see what he's got? Imagine if he explodes onto the scene and kicks a bag in 3 games!! Wouldn't that then change our recruitment strategy/ thoughts? eg Jake Waterman. Agreed, small sample size but we have unearthed another key forward it could be a game changer.

The thing about goal kicking is that if you think you're seeing these things with his routine then you probably are.

Even if he kicked a bag. I’d be going after Waterman.

Waterman = Lobb

Either is something!!

We have to get an exerienced KF while we have Tracc, Oliver, Gawn & May.

I would rather go to the draft and get the best midfielder.

We were top 4 on the ladder and heading into a finals campaign in jvrs first year. We are not making finals this year. So a game or two in the seniors will do him good

It is all a representative benchmark for his progress and a strict regimen for his skills improvements ... let alone some realities of the big-time season ahead of him. Develop, develop and expose.

Keeping the standards high. As high as mount Kosciuszko.

(I'm sure even when written, you felt a churning in your stomach knowing that it was inevitably mispronounced in my head)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
