Fremantle could stand to be one of the big beneficiaries of Melbourne’s AFLW grand final victory with premiership Demon Karen Paxman believed to be weighing up a move west.

Speculation emerged within the Dockers camp that the five-time All-Australian could consider a shift to Western Australia on the back of Melbourne’s four-point win over Brisbane in Sunday’s decider.

The West Australian understands the 34-year-old is close friends with Fremantle’s player development manager Claire Heffernan.

The Demons are said to be aware of Paxman’s situation but will hope to convince their two time best-and-fairest to remain in red and blue given a timeframe is yet to be set for the AFLW sign-and-trade period.

Paxman’s management could not be reached for comment.

The potential addition of Paxman would be a major coup for the Dockers, who have struggled for outside run after losing winger Steph Cain to Essendon.

Paywall so don’t know her reasons. Is she from WA originally? More money? I don’t understand the appeal otherwise.

she should stay with us and remain a one club player. Try to win another flag. She’s still good enough to go around with us for another year or two at least.

Article does not mention any reason BDA

Don't begrudge her at all if she leaves. Gets played out of position with our glut of mids, and has stuck around to win a flag. Now she's done that, good luck to her whatever she wants to do.

Devo if this happens. Our greatest player by a long way IMO. Apologies to Daisy.

Yes I agree she has been our best player over the past 7 seasons

Paxy was fantastic this year and a massive part of our success. She set the bar with both skill and effort - I wish her well whatever she decides.

Agree. No need to be coy about it. It's no secret that Paxy is gay so just say they're in a relationship

Maybe it's not Paxy they'd be outing. Or, maybe they are actually close friends and that's why they didn't say they're in a relationship.

She is an absolute legend, but if you're being ruthless her cliff is rapidly approaching. Regardless, if she goes it's obviously for personal reasons so would be hard to begrudge her after years of quality service.

Her work rate was so immense in the grand final she seemed to have completely cramped up by 3/4 time.

But her ball use isn’t as influential now that pressure is way up and there isn’t huge space for her to run in to. And the younger more explosive players get the bulk of the midfield minutes. I maintain she gets a little bit out of structure with her running too.

Lizzie Mac should be back on the wing next year for more outside run. Plus Mackin another year of learning the game. More wing experience for Lampy. Sherrif, Mitho and Hanks can play the high half forward role and more speed inside 50 is already a priority.

I think the club would be doing their best to keep her, especially if Daisy goes as well. But if she’s got personal reasons to go there’s football reasons not to break the bank to convince her otherwise. Either way we’d wish her well. Kearney has the All Aus record but you can make the case that Paxy has been the most consistent aflw player over the competitions existence.

Just as she's always done on the field, in this instance, Paxy can do as she pleases as far as I'm concerned. Of course I'd love to see her finish her career as a Demon, but she's given everything and deserves to do what's best for her. Easier to say this now given we've got the cup and that we'll never be in a better position to replace her. And taking a league-wide perspective, this would be good for WA footy which is obviously not our main concern here, but as benevolent leaders of the competition, we can make such gestures.

My one stipulation is that if she doesn't continue with us, the bandage goes. If she stays, the bandage stays.

I’m smelling BS on this. Only 1 media outlet reporting this. She’s from the north western suburbs, her family and her partner are here in Melbourne, and she was telling me last night how much she loves the Demons. She bleeds red and blue.

How about personal relationship? I don’t know, just taking an educated guess…..

Paxy is still our best player who is generally ON from the start! Not after 1/4 time and always in the thickest plays to benefit the team. It's usually tough possessions and they look just fine with no panic or risk.

Would be still irreplaceable now but halfway into next season development still  with Westy Liv Tayla Hanks and some part time mids May change this.

But  has Karan  earned the  right to decide for herself when she retires or moves to career betterment ( not possible really) at another Club.

We await the next report whether this  has any legs.

That’s great to know and very reassuring.

since you seem to know a bit about this, what is the strength of the rumours that Dailey is taking a full time job as a coach at Geelong in both the men’s and women’s programs. Doesn’t seem to make any sense to me given her long term commitment to the Dees, in both programs. Surely we could find a spot for her.

I don't know alot about the Paxy stuff, but I know a bit about this because it's not a rumour, it's been confirmed.

Daisy is part of the coaching acceleration project. As part of this, she'll be placed into a club's AFL program to get the coaching experience. It was announced last year she'd be going to Geelong, but the timing hasn't been decided; Daisy said it'd be after her playing career at Melbourne, and from all of her comments after the GF she hasn't decided when she'll finish up.

I think it makes sense for her to explore other experiences with other clubs. No-one stays with the same club forever, but it doesn't mean she won't be back eventually.

Reckon the time is right for Daisy to bow out on a high, as the captain of a premiership team. Her influence has waned significantly from a football perspective. Head to Geelong, absorb and learn as much as she can before returning to the Dees in some coaching capacity (and bring back plenty of intel from the Cats)

Her family, her partner, etc are all in Greenvale.  Apart from a friend who works at Fremantle that's cited in the article, she has no ties in WA.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
