Seems like a bridge slightly too far, would need to be at least top 3.

Plenty of twists and turns to go though.

Could we also be trying to move back next year with lots of points to do the f/s dance (mini-Dogga)?  If we go forward this year, and back with points next year, we could ‘win’ in both scenarios?

We may have achieved what we intended: utter confusion.

Well I'm certainly confused.

As I understand it we have pick 13 ( which is really 14 .... or is it 15) ...... but according to another thread pick 19 is better!

However, we are also going for pick 5 ( or 6) both of which seem unattainable ...... is that correct?

Of course we've also got pick 37 but apparently all the decent players will be gone by then.

You are confused Uncle, as no one has claimed pick 19 is better than 13, yet.

Going to let someone else worry about it all.

Blasphemous. There is no Oliver mk2.

AFAIC, the universe [censored] up by even allowing Oliver 1.0 to exist.

Foxfooty.com.au understands Melbourne’s primary motivation behind entering the draft earlier is to give itself a chance of securing Phillipou — the son of Sam Phillipou, who kicked 250 goals from 150 SANFL games for the Eagles and Magpies while also playing three AFL games for Footscray.

Interesting we're keen on Philipou. We originally may have put a lot of time into him and planned to land him at 13, but now his stocks have risen we want to trade up to get him.

If we do trade up, we're essentially burning all the Jackson compo and opting out of the first round next year (bar losing high end talent in future etc) to land this player, so they better be damn sure he'll be an elite player. Anything less will be considered a list management stuff up of the highest order. He'll need to produce and become more Petracca than Weideman.

Philipou looks a good prospect as that mid/forward impact player, though his field kicking is hit and miss. The Bont comparisons aren't overly accurate IMO. I'm more hoping we trade up to get Sheezel, who looks pure class and has big impact on games up forward. His kicking and footy IQ is elite.

Forget both.

Bombers will take Phillipou and Roos Sheezel. If Bombers don’t Hawks will.

Bombers would want 13 and both our F1 picks knowing Dodoro.

We are trying to trade up into the top 5 though, so one of them would be available to us presumably. I agree though, I don’t think it’s going to happen. Clubs in the top 5 will hold and use the picks at draft.

There is no way any recruit is worth 3 first round picks without playing senior games in the AFL, you don't burn your picks on a player who may turn out to be Jimmy Toumpas.

Was waiting for the news to break and there it is.

190cm+, clean through traffic, long left foot kick, takes a strong overhead mark, great footy pedigree and is a super late birth date who's going to fill out in to a very big and powerful midfielder.

I got a little overexcited about Ed Allan based on my own viewing but as soon as I heard the Phillipou rumour and watched more footage it's clear to me why JT and co see Phillipou as the player to target in this draft.

Unfortunately it seems Essendon have come to their senses too, no matter how much he's tried to tank his interviews.

Stress free demonlander. We have a premiership... I have total trust in the footy department.

They only came to their senses when they realised JT rates him, so he must be good. Dodo probably has him rated at 50

But now i won't be able to forget them.

Wonder if we like any of the guys projected to go in the 6-10 range, and whether we'll offer a similar package if they're available on draft night

Look at my key chain.

Follow it closely.

You are getting sleepy.

You are asleep.

When you wake you will have forgotten those 2 footballers I named.

Click, click, you are awake.

That is so weird. I just lost 17 hours of my life.

The last thing i remember, i was sitting on a train typing a comment into Demonland, and next thing i know i wake up at work reading Demonland.

I wonder who the club is interested in drafting?

Personally, i'm clueless about such things and happy to put my trust in the recruiting team to get it right (trust they well and truly have earned).

Though i am wondering if they could ask Engorged Onion to do a psych eval of any prospective draftees to screen for mummy issues.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
