Wow! What was the project?

I directed the show open and package for Vh1’s Hip Hop Honours while I was based in New York.

I used to be so cool. I think my coolness left sometime around 2012 (and took most of my hair with it).

That's really is pretty cool HBT. I'm thinking of stealing it and incorporating it into my own background.

For verisimilitude, when recounting your experience directing that crew, make sure you add that Eric b and Rakim's album Paid in Full is arguably the greatest hip hop album, and the title track is arguably the most influential hip hop song ever.

And, to avoid any tricky questions that might poke hole in your story,  quickly say the phenomenal coldcut remix is even better than the original (and is also super influential in the way that it blended hip hop and electronic, paving the way for DJ Shadow, Nightmares on Wax and arguably even super producers like madlib, MF Doom and jay dilla)

No one has mentioned that rapper who wore a clock round his neck.

He would never have an excuse for being late to an appointment.

Ok at some point this thread’s name needs to be changed to “Demonland Record Corner”.

That’d be Public Enemy. There was a thread on here a couple of months ago called Fill the ‘G and I always thought it sounded like a Public Enemy song title (think, Fight the Power).

The band is public enemy.

The fella with the outsize clock like a bling necklace is Flava flav.

Not really a rapper, more an old school hype man.

My go to albums for Rap as Paid in full, PE - takes a nation, NWA -Straight outta, Ice -T - OG, Ice Cube - Lethal Injection, Geto Boys -Til death do us part.

Snoops early stuff, Cypress and Warren G’s first lot are always good to throw on too.

I wonder what happened to my Slade LPs

This is the first full thread I’ve read through in months. Lol what a journey.

old55 never came back with his black metal verdict. Anyone checked on him?

Back to the user names thing, @Ethan Tremblay’s short stint as GingerGuitar still makes me chortle once a week.

I've always felt disappointed, even sad, for anybody too young to see Robbie Flower play. Having read this thread, I now have a second reason to feel disappointed. Anyone too young for Robbie Flower is also too young to know The Beatles in their prime. I've tried to explain the influence on contemporary music and the seven glorious years of Beatlemania to my children and they just don't understand. All the discussion comparing metal bands in this thread is rather like discussing the merits of Neitz versus Schwarz when Robbie Flower towers over them majestically.

The Beatles were obviously very good but if I had a choice to see one of the 2 i would chose The Doors over The Beatles.

I had you at the top of the tree for liking extreme metal and hip hop as I'm a tech death head who likes hip hop but I think he's in front now. Just WoW.

Still mining the ore DA.  Saw the ghost of Anton LaVey down there humming along to a few of the tunes.

I quite liked his previous avi, too. The one where he’s lying seductively on the beach in a rather fetching low-cut number. 😁

They were shy? 🥹 Bless. This makes me love them that little bit extra. 😍

He was actually often late to appointments. Was due to looking at the clock in mirrors or upside down with his chin to his chest

Sad story

I always return to “Enter The Wu Tang (36 Chambers)”. It’s got such a dark, subterranean mood throughout, and just drops you into their world. It’s the “Exile On Main St” of hip-hop.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
